  • The Celts are currently at war with the Goths, and with the Macedonians. The Goths are winning this war. I think they will be a far greater danger, than the Celts. Either way, I agree we should be planning for a war to the north.

We are currently making 3 Legions (or 4 Heavy Cavalries) worth of cash each turn. This means, that having Barracks in vital points should allow us to muster a quick and powerful defense on the very turn it's needed. This is what Emperor Jon C Nunn was referring to - we don't need to keep forces where they are not used. I would add, that rushing Barracks seems a good thing to do, especially since they cost very little gold with a 1-shield prebuild. If you imagine 6 Legions, or 8 Cavalries greeting an attacker, with more coming along, this seems like a good investment.
    Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

    • I agree with you totally but we must be thinking ahead not just waiting for an attack so lets get building troops troops and more troops the more the better

          • I agree with the need to rush barracks, and quite a few cities did receive them during my adminisration, I needed a few more turns to finish this since many of the cities were busy normal building workers. [Ordered by a previous Emperor and left in place]

All Legionary IIIs that were used as police in Italy were normal built, not rushed.

Garrision units were however rushed in some of the poorest shield-wise cities in Italy.

It appeared to me to be more of a stalemate between the two than either side having a major advantage.

I do note that the Celts are likely to lose their eastern most cities to the eastern most barb tribe in the near future, but that tribe may turn on the Gauls later.

                • Noted that we finally have a MGL for building our FP!

Well, now we need to find a place to put it. Will check the state of the empire this evening to see how much more cities in Spain we have now and how large the Balkin cities have grown.

We need to look to the imediate future !!

I think the next few emporers need to follow a simple path, build as many troops as possible with the enhanced income we now have. Complete the task of clearing and settling Spain and then attack the Celts.

                      • I know I initally advocated Russicide, but my look of the turn indicates that "Stollen Wine" is a much better location on this difficulty level.

Russicide is at the max allowed corruption level and the closest cities are 4 tiles away => Adjoining cities won't benfit from the distance reduced corruption.

Stolen Wine is 3 tiles away from 2 current city locations. Both of which alaready have Court Houses. One is 70% corrupt (just below max) and the other is 50% corrupt. It will also bring strong cultural influence upon the Celtic city of Dectia.

If chosen, new emperor should rush the Barracks this turn. (A good idea anyway.) Following compeltion, the improvements adding cultural should also be rushed here to complete the culture bomb.

Note that this will move up the date the invasion of the Celts should take place (following kicking the Carthigans out of Spain)

Also note that after we take 3 more cities from Carthage in Spain, they may be willing to give up the rest of them there. (Ensure they don't have a settler in Spain in that case before signing.)

                          • When settling new cities near the barbarians, we should remember that we have Temples everywhere. Remote colonies, like Cavillonum (Scythian) can be taken without a fight, by surrounding them with our culture. This is true for the Celts, the Goths, and the Scythians alike (look at the culture graph...). Carthage and Macedonia will probably be more resistant to flips.

We have cash for that, so we should keep rushing units. Just remember, that it's best used in cities with low production.

Stolen Wine looks like a fine location for our FP. Even if Decetia doesn't flip, we'll be conquering it sooner or later.

The islands look nice, but none are 1-tiled, so a city there would be in danger. I don't think that's a good idea.

Considering our "automatic" border expansions, and the fact that we need land, here are some proposed city sites. They assume border expansions, count on added Walls defense, and the conquest/flipping of some neighbouring barbarians.

That is probably too many already, as we are close to the 9% area, that is needed for a win, and still conquering Carthage.

We are also approaching the population requirement, so I guess growing cities at home is a good idea for the next Emperor after Optimus Betamus.
