WCs upgrade to knights. They cannot upgrade to horsemen.
Think about it: if you were one of the people in Firaxis, would you let WCs, which are equal in strength to horsemen, upgrade to horsemen?
When you upgrade one unit to another unit, the cost is calculated by multiplying the amount of extra shields necessary to build the superior unit by four (or by two if you have Leonardo's Workshop), which means that a WC would have had to be upgraded at the cost of 40 gold just so it will not have the single disadvantage of being a wheeled unit.

Yes I was under the impression wc can upgrade to horse. They can't so please build horsemen. I suggest in Poly and Bhq they canturn one out every 5 turns. In tass build spear we do need them. These are just suggestions.

I thought you couldn't upgrade a UU, my Immortals for Persia have never given me the option to upgrade them................... Also, we have to decide when we want our Golden Age because if our WC wins then we will have our Golden age, if we like it or not!!

I hate GMT and that 5 hour difference. Makes things all in a new day kinda thing.... Why the rest of the world just doesn't switch to using EST is beyond me. And on top of that, what is wrong with miles, feet and inches. You all had to switch to Kilometers and such. Egads....

Swords, legions and immortals are all the same in the machine. They have no further upgrade. Each uu is treated different, but most horse uu such as our war chariot do upgrade to the next best horse unit. In this case our WC upgrades into a knight. THe horse also upgraded into a knight. There are only 2 big differences between these, the WC costs 2/3 of a horse (but the upgrade cost is more). The WC is also wheeled, so it cannot go through jungle or over mountains without roads. Very limiting in our situation. They would work well against the americans, but all of our existing foes are on the other side of inhospitible terrain.

Our GA would be best to wait until most of our cities are size 3+, to take the most benefit from it, and it would be best either some time in the middle middle ages (for the many wonders) or in the early industrial age (to boost production). There are two ways to get the GA, either through wonder construction or through the uu winning its first battle. We have yet to agree to try and go for the GA, but so far almost all have agreed that now is not the time unless we become desperate and need any edge we can get.

That's because they're based on swordsmen and swordsmen don't upgrade to anything.

Ahem, We all use GMT because Greenwich is the centre of the universe , and we do use miles, feet and inches here (although Kilometres, metres, centimetres and millimetres are a lot easier to use!)!!

Thanks Shiber, and Godking, I wondered why, because I always end up playing with a civ with a subsitute for swordsmen!!

As much as I dislike decreasing the pop in our core cities I think we will need some settlers to fill in the gaps when the beat down the French/Munich
                      Are we having fun yet?

Two suggestions to the city planners:
#1: In Paris, switch to working either the tile N or NE of Paris. It produces one shield less (but all the shields but one are lost to waste anyway) but it produces an additional commerce (which will not be lost to corruption according to the city screen).
#2: In timeline, instead of working the road tile NE of Timeline work the forest tile N of Timeline. We'll make one less food per turn but we'll make up for it with an additional two shields per turn (which won't be lost to waste. Again, I checked).
Please let me know if you intend to apply these changes.

Shiber, I will look at the download soon and look at your suggestions. My orders for timeline were to have it work the shield grasslands until it grew, then with the second pop to have them work the forest. This should have occured last play, but without the download I cannot check to see if it occured.

Last I saw of Paris (where its at?) is that it was in rebellion and wasn't working any tiles outside itself.

Thanks for keeping me on my toes.

I followed the orders for Timeline, but in the save it is working weird tiles - it just grew and I hadn't made changes again when I saved. Still, no loss!

Paris (Now "Here It Is") was annoying - continually starving, meaning I'd need to reallocate the taxmen. It's finally out of disorder, and I didn't look at any worker allocations the turn I saved (210 BC) - I just wanted Marseille and then to stop.
