A barracks would be too much. Ubergorsk is already guarded by two veteran spearmen, and with it being on a jungle tile and guarded by a wall they have 4 defense.
I suggest that instead we upgrade the 3 warriors we have in the core cities to swordsmen and keep them on a road a little north of BHQ to assist in case either Persia, Germany or Greece decide to attack. They should be enough to stop the first wave.

But with a barracks in Ubergorsk, defending (and our resting counter-attackers) units would heal more quickly, vastly improving our chances of defending the city.

The question is - do we think that 2 veteran spearmen with 3.2 defense points (after the wall bonus + 10% defense bonus from grasslands) and a back-up team of 3 swordsmen a few turns away (we should keep them in Loveshack) can't handle Persian archers? Are we confident enough that with all these defenses barracks are still necessary that we're willing to put 40 shields into building it and 1 gpt into maintaining it once it's built?
My answer is no.

Btw I've checked, and as stated above the city is not in a jungle tile but on a grassland tile (it became a grassland when we settled on it) and so it is given a 10% defensive bonus in addition to the 50% from the wall, not 50% as I've mentioned above. Besides, jungles give the defender a 25% bonus, not 50%... I must have been very woozy when I wrote that stuff if I've made so many mistakes, lol.

It would be Persian archers if they attacked now. But it may be Persian immortals if they attack down the road. Huge difference. Plus, this city may well become a launching platform down the road (literally and figuratively), if we take on Persia someday. In that scenario, a barracks close to the battlefield would be key.

In any event (sorry about the double post) the main thrust of my original suggestion was to avoid slowing the population growth at Ubergorsk by building a worker. We should be beefing this city up as rapidly as possible -- and a large population will help bolster it against culture flipping.

A barracks in Ubergorsk would be an tremendous asset if Persia or Germany went to war with us - but that's never going to happen.

Hmm, if we had a barraks in Ubergorsk we could upgrade all those warriors in Region 3 to swordsmen.

Mingapulco Region War Production Summary

Ok due to the current situation I thought it would be neccesary to summarize the production capabilities of our core cities.

Spearmen and Chariots cost 20 sheilds. Horses and swords 30. I'm not sure but I think the upgrade from WC to horses is 40gp.

Currently has 3 spearmen.
Prod: WC/Spears every 3 turns. Horses/swords every 5 turns.
In 5 turns it grows and then
Prod: WC/spear every 2 turns or Horse/sword every 3 turns.

-BHQ
Currently has 2 warriors
Prod: WC/Spears every 5 turns. Horses/swords every 8 turns.

-Tass
Currently has 1 spear and 1 warrior
Prod: WC/Spears every 5 turns. Horses/swords every 8 turns.
Grows in 5 turns then
Prod: WC/Spear every 4 turns. Horses/sword every 6 turns.

-Termina
Currently has 2 spears
In 2 turns it grows and then

At the moment it's 25 commerce per turn. I expect it will grow to 30 in a few turns after we've secured our new French cities and quelled all resistors, unless they are managed badly and fall into civil disorder.

Theoretically, if we switched to Monarchy right now the extra money from lower corruption will be nullified by the money we'll have to pay to support our army (our free support will drop by 50%) so we won't make any more money than we do now. However, after the war is through and we'll have some new towns Monarchy will be the best choice.
And as stated before, republic will be a bad choice until our population grows significantly. It needs to grow by roughly 10 or 15 new citizens (not including the new citizens we'll get from the conquered towns) before republic becomes a viable choice.
