The impi is a faster spearman. Move a stack of horsemen and a few impi around together and use them to wreak havoc. The impi should be used to provide cover for horsemen, not as an attacker. Postponing military use of the impi until you have horsemen will delay your Golden Age. Granted, I haven't actually used this strategy myself, but it seems pretty obvious.

Early warmongering is the obvious strategy for the Zulu, given their traits and early UU. That's why I'm not particularly inclined to play them, not being much of a warmonger myself.

Huh? It was 10.36% when I checked. They are the least-played civ after the Zulus. Don't really see why.

What REALLy surprises me about this vote is that not even 2 out of 100 players have played all civs yet! I thought it was pretty common to have played all of them, otherwise it's not really possible to have a verified opinion on which civ you like best and whom you dislike.

I always play as Rome (although I did try the babs just once).

The ONLY reason that there are other civs in this game is so I can frag them.
I drink to one other, and may that other be he, to drink to another, and may that other be me!

I ALWAYS play as the germans (how odd.. I love roman history and I'm playing instead with those who burned up Rome to the ground and trashed any sign of human civilization in Europe for about 800 years )

BTW, roman city names are all messed up and they suck as a civ. In all my prev games I always gave all my techs to them for free, but they STILL got trashed within 30 turns -looks like after building 10 cities or so they just sit on their useless uranium and have a cup of tea

I could never play against the germans, love too much Berlin
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

The Greeks are the vile underbelly of a pig in too much mud....they swiftly killed me in my first go at the game...since then I put them in every game and go after them like a poop fly that hasn't seen a turd in a week.

I never played as an american, iroquois and English because don´t like the expansionist ability and his UU (except the Man-o-war really sucks).

About horseback riding again... When you research The Wheel, you see the horse resource. you actually research Horseback Riding after the Wheel and that's often historically bull****. I dont know any native american tribes that ever used wheel but in Civ3 it's still that way (in civ2 it was vice-versa).

                        The_Hawk:

                        Don't knock the Zulus.

The key to using the Zulus is to remeber that the Impi is NOT an attacking unit. As a mobile defensive unit, it keeps mobile attackers, like Horsemen/Mounted Warriors and Jaguar Warriors, from retreating from combat (their best ability). So, the mobile unit rushes early attackers favor don't work with the Zulu. Also, the Impi makes an awesome disruption unit, able to go deep into enemy territory to destroy terrain improvements (especially roads), and survive to fight/defend again. Have you ever dealt with an enemy civ whose units tore apart your supply lines, causing you to lose access to horses and/or iron? Usually, those units have puny defense but are highly mobile, so killing them is difficult. The Impi is fast AND as tough as a Spearman. AND, it allows the player to keep a smaller defensive force because of the Impi's mobility (move to reinforce where needed). Your comment about the Impi offense doesn't make sense, because any smart Zulu player would go on offense using the Archers THEY START WITH, with Impi as stack defenders.

As far as their traits go, they are far from the best, but they can shine on the larger maps. With more goody huts to exploit, the Expansionist trait becomes really useful. To put Militaristic to work, you HAVE to go to war. The Zulu keep up in the tech race by demanding techs from subjugated civs and exploring goody huts, not by research.

Play each civ to it's strengths.
All generalizations are false, including this one.

I've tried all of them. However, I rarely ever play as England, Russia, India or Babylon. I definitely prefer Japan, China, Germany, or America.

Top 5 Least Played Civs (according to this poll so far)

                            1 Zulus
                            2 Iroquois
                            3 Indians
                            4 English
                            5 Russians

Can't say the results surprise me, except that the Indians are so unpopular. I mean, they're not that bad??
I guess the reason the Americans (expanionists, lousy UU) aren't among the top 5 is Civ3's popularity in the US.

And the top 5 most played Civs (according to the poll):

                              1. Romans
                              2. Egypts
                              3. Greeks
                              4. Persians
                              5. Babylonians
This space is empty... or is it?

Yes, if by "least played" and "most played" you're referring to the number of people who've played them, not how often they're played. That's a separate, but related, issue.

Why do the percentages in the poll total 100%? You can choose more than one option, can't you? If you select x options, is that just counted as x separate votes? Not very accurate, IMO.
