Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
I chose Babylon... it felt obvious to me. I settled one square east of the wheat, and my first worker job was to irrigate the starting square. I built a temple first, and then warriors to explore.
I was amazmed at the speed with which my city grew, and how productive it quickly became. Off the top of my head, I built wonder after wonder, improvment after improvment, and warriors and bowmen in one turn each.
After discovering the wealth of luxury in the homeland, I knew that colonies and trade were the way to go. I built dozens of units, with the goal being to surround the land, to prevent settlers landing by ship.
I fought two big wars, one allied with India against Korea, and another against Korea. I used these wars to raze all of the cities on MY continent, and began the process of filling in all of the coast with units...
I managed to stay even or ahead in tech, and got almost every wonder I set my sights on. In the middle of the Middle Ages AI cities started catching up in production, and managed to steal Shakespeare's from me. GRRRR. The only time I've EVER tried to build it.
I lost in the early industrial agefor a stupid reason... in my rush to block of my contient I left Babylon without a garrison... I was in democracy and all 12 of my people were incredibly happy... I had trade with almost everyone, and.... Rome dropped a spear on my shore and walked right into Babylon. No delcaration of war, no warning... I had trade deals with them even....
I plan to play again... I'll probably pick Babs again and the same starting square... the mix between fresh water, ocean, lots of productive tiles, and COAL and IRON is unbeatable.
By the way... my iron source within the city radius depleted six turns before I discovered coal in the radius. This was infuriating...
OCC was never something I'd have otherwise tried, but I enjoyed myself and feel I learned about city managment and diplomacy. Good game, guys!
EDIT: I called Rome Spain for some reason. That's what I get for waiting a week and doing an AAR from memory.
Now that was an amazing attempt at OCC. Of course Rome is a conquerer at heart and always has loads of units at the ready for battle, but I was hoping you would be able to pull it off. I was completely surprised you were able to absolutely destroy 4 civs, and you certainly kept the research very slow.
Wait, what level did you say you were playing? Below warlord? Ohhh, now it makes sense. I would love to see someone take on regent or monarch and win OCC by conquest.
Fosse: That reminds me, funny how in OCC Shakespeare's becomes one of the best wonders to have, whereas I rarely decide to build it in regular civ games
I forgot to say congratulations, Nor Me! Are we the only two that have achieved a Space Race victory?! I bet DaveMcW is still working on his Histrographic win...

Don't feel too bad Corpus, that's how I lost AU207. I thought since everyone was polite with me except Japan and the Vikings I'd get the votes but was wrong. Had I known everyone was gonna vote for Wang I would have had everyone go to war against him. But I also just wanted to see if I could pull of a diplomatic win without any bribes or anything. That was my first and probably last try at winning with UN.

I'll give anyone a huge pat on the back if they can do it on regent or monarch. I think using what I learned I might be able to pull it off if I tried it again on chieftain. Looking back I can see where I could improve.
However it was a ton of fun. Especially in the end where I was racing against the clock to take everyone out before 2050. And only being able to turn out cavalry every 4 turns or so didn't help. I was using my money to rush them so I was getting them a wee bit quicker than that until the gold ran out. But it didn't matter. I just couldn't keep up with the Romans.
If any of you ever try it this is probably my biggest piece of advice would have to be don't be afraid to abuse a RoP or two. I say if you can pull off the Arrian deception against the Indians or Koreans do it. And then I say do it again later on. If I hadn't been so worried about breaking a RoP earlier I could have cut Romes saltpeter and horses a lot earlier and made my life a lot more simple. And it's not like everyone didn't hate me anyways.

they were all played on Regent w/ the gold on the hill.....i think the gold on the mountain helps out tremendously..........Admired the Attempt at conquest
Well I decided to give it one last go at 302 like Dom suggested. I considered my Ottoman game a lost cause and decided to give it a go with the Babs.
Things are going okay I suppose. I just entered the middle ages not too long ago. I'm currently right up there in techs but know I'm gonna fall behind sooner or later. I'm in super builder mode and currently only have 1 spearman and 1 med. infantry. And because I'm so weak militarily the Celts think they can bully me around. Not a big deal though. What's he gonna do, sail his army over in galleys?
So far I've got the Colossus, GL, and GL. I missed a whole bunch of wonders that were built before I even had contact with the other continent. I hate that. This is a far cry from chieftain where I had almost all the wonders.
