Last year, in this forum, I suggested translating Civ II into Latin. I saw some interest here and have been working on it a little at a time. I have put a call for help on my new Web site:
My God! (Can we say that or will the auto censor strike us down with a bolt of lightening?) I had forgotten that thread entirely - I still think it is a splendid idea - why not try for some mechanical translation - there are a couple of sites out there that do this...
I'd help if I knew any latin... I remember the thread, and would still download it for my brother-in-law once complete. My sister would thank me endlessly!

What exactly comprises "half way finished"?
The rules are really just about done. More or less considerable work is done on labels, city, menu, game and pedia. Why, can you read Latin ? Wanna proof-read what me and my wife got done? Can you finish one or more of the files?

Latin???!?!? Is anyone more confident in their Latin reading abilities than any other language Civ2 has been translated into?
No, but I do know this game well enough to make do in most languages as long as I can read the character set - and that includes Latin -- don't you think it would really make for a convincing simulation?
Years ago somebody published a humorous Latin phrasebook for the modern man. It was written in such a way that a decent comprehension of any Romance language would suffice to glean the odd twists.
I saw one of the best lines in a sig here on Apolyton. It translated "I have a gun. Give me your money or I'll shoot." as "I have a catapult. Give me your money or I'll hurl an enormous rock at your head."
What you really should do is look for the silliest, overly literal, way of translating game features into Latin. Then supply the excessively literal translation back to English… :P
