I'm trying a duel tonight, which is the only way I've heard that the game will work.

Why is it that for the last week or so, NOBODY from Firaxis has said a thing.

Even after the release of the original game, there were quite a few problems, and they were still visible.

    Now, nothing.
Some days are diamonds, some days are rocks...

They may not be posting as much now as they did right after the release, but they are reading the threads. The feature that mods use to track what people are doing on the site at any given time (a useful feature) has shown me that many members of the Firaxis team are online and constantly checking threads in the PTW and Multiplay forums. But Firaxis is well known for not saying much until they have something definitive to say... which isn't that bad of an idea
      Keep on Civin'

i have the game, a legit copy but have yet to really try it out....it works perfectly with my perfect warez civ3 copy which i burned to disk

the new stuff in SP mode is nice...glad at least one copy of civ 3 was paid for....i firmly don't believe in wasting my money on two copies, so for someone to buy me civ3 ptw works perfectly........

now i need to get that collecters tin

Want to hear the truth about PTW, nothing held back?:

Some time ago I myself bought Civ 3. I played at first whole-heartedly, admiring the vividness which the animations brought to the game, enjoying the dynamics of borders and armies and mixed-rank units (reg./vet./elite), believing at first that these people, Sid Meyer to name one, had been...

A subtle way to say the posts are long, word-police...

But wait! i believe somewhere in the internet right now someone might be making a similar analogy that would equally disturb you! QUICK! To the loser-mobile!

Well, it is called Civfanatics for a reason!

I just read that eloquent thread. It's been awhile since I've seen those sort of posts. You wouldn't know someone by the name of Yin26 would you!?

But coming back to the difference between Civ2MP and Civ3 (PTW) I would have to state that Civ2 is more " pure" than Civ3. Civ3 introduced a number of interesting features but mananged to break the Civ-gaming formula in the process.

Civ2 was fine when it came out of the box. The mechanism was very similar to Civ1 but introduced some new features: hitpoints/firepower, advisors (come one, everybody thought they were funny), some new WoW's all of which enhanced the game but didn't get in the way. The Civ2 gamebalance was perfect. The fact that the same rules.txt is still unchanged 6 years later is proof of that.

This is not the case with Civ3 which still had major rule problems to be fixed after the game was released (anyone remember the lumberjack strategy?).

It shouldn't be left to the players to fix Civ3 themselves. It should have been play balanced from the start...
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

This is a bit invasive isn't it?

Does it only work with those of us that have subscribed here?

                          I don't like it.

It's very useful when you have known trouble makers acting up. You can respond almost as quickly as they post. (which for me, I don't use it very often) For the real paranoids out there, there is usually no reason to check it to see what you're doing.

The only other reason I use it is to see if someone is on-line if I'm looking for a game, but there are many other ways to accomplish that. (including the new group listing or even just checking the member list)

It's not like they have a camera in your room or anything......they can just see what you are doing at 'poly. I really don't see the problem.
