    • Also, until (I think) 1916, the Entente powers cannot build heavy artillery, though the Confederates are given some heavy artillery through events. In the war in our timeline, it was 1916 before the allies had heavy artillery in any real numbers on the western front.

I may change that though, as it seems to keep the Entente nations (save the CSA) from being able to launch any sort of offensives at all (you all don't seem to like field artillery much).

      • Scott, there just isn't enough industrial capacity to launch any offensives that will be worth anything without heavy artillery.

I agree, my early successes as the Confederates were due to my use of heavy artillery. Without veteren Heavy Artillery, it's really nearly impossible to take a walled, reasonably well defended city, which along with most of the events and industrial capacity give the Central Powers a big advantage (not that I'm saying they shouldn't have any). I suppose the limited effects of artillery is probably somewhat realistic given the scale WWI was fought on, but if that were to be recreated accurately, it would be one of the most boring scenarioes, as barely anything would ever change.
The field artillery works fine for picking off units outside of cities...eventually, but is really marginally effective for use against cities. The only chance we ever really have to get cities is to take back our own that were just taken before enemy troops have time to dig in and have enough defenders sit in to make it impossible, at least in my experience.

          • I am considering giving the allies heavy artillery in events (for offensives like Artois) instead of field artillery. This would likely correct the "total paralysis" thing withou deviating too much from history.
