I'm not on Stavka, but I suggest we start discusing our strategy for next winter. If we know what we want to do, we can put all assets in position in time, and hit the Germans on every front and push them back. I ask comrade Marshal to correct me, or add things, but I think we best do this by placing objectives for every front, and discussing how we will do things.

For example: Attacking Galati, from Sevastopel. What will this need, when could we do it, what needs to be done first, what does it give to us, what to do when we take the city, etc We should discuss these things well in advance, so we won't encounter surprises when we actually do it !!

Red AirForce

Of more importance is an issue we've been neglecting for a while, the distribution of the Red AirForce.

Now I'm ordering an La-5 north from Stalingrad this turn to help out the 1st Ukranian Front, and another will go north next turn. Comrade Naldayev, do you think you can spare one of your new planes to the joint command area of Bryansk and Orel? Comrade Yopov, do you think you can spare one of your La-5's to the Baltic Front? I realize I've called upon you to sacrifice much recently, I'll even cancel that Mech Inf transfer I asked you about earlier.

That's a short term fix for some of the fronts, I may even transfer a 3rd La-5 northward in the future, but right now we don't have enough planes to go around. Comrade Anzyakov has begun construction of an airbase at Kalinin, to construct his own airforce, however this is going to be a long term project unless we rush the airbase and the planes, a significant investment to be sure. (360K rubles to rush the airport this turn) Moscow however offers us a much cheaper way of creating an airforce for the Belorussian and NorthWest Fronts. We can produce one La-5 per turn there at no rushbuild cost for the indefinite future. If we want to produce IL-2 Shturmokivs we'll have to rush 75K rubles worth each turn to get the first 2 IL-2's, after that it will have to be 100K worth of rubles because of growing unit support from the city, unless we rehome some of Moscow's units to other cities. Of course the German War Machine may solve our unit support problem for us. To build more Pe-2's in Moscow, we need to rush the first 100K worth of rubles to get the first 2 units, after that it will be 125K rubles per turn. In comparison, Kalinin will need 2 turns to build an La-5 without rushbuying, and 3 turns each to build an IL-2 or Pe-2 without rushing. Gorkiy needs 2 turns to build an La-5 or IL-2, and 3 turns to build a Pe-2, and Gorkiy already has an airport to produce veteran air units. Gorkiy's citizens can also be reorganized so that all air units can be produced in just 2 turns without rushing if we so desire.

OK, Kalinin wqas a long-term project and I don't see its completion soon. I could also start building an airport at Vologda which, when we start producing many units, can help get them via airlifting to the northern/far-northern sectors of the front, as well as act as another plane manufacturing city. Should I go and build it? It could pay off for us to build one there for the future.

The Balkans are kind of lightly defended - I recommend the leap across to Galati and then Ploesti. Ploesti gives us another big trade city

Also, what about knocking out Finland? They're a bit tougher, I found, to eliminate, especially Helsinki with the coastal fortress. At some point, the Germans start to garrison their cities with 88's, and those are hard to kill with even a Katyusha. Il-2s have little chance against an 88, so we ought to grab some territory before the Germans build up their defences.

I agree, but we should not move before we are ready. A hasty attack could result in a Finnish victory on the Kola. None of us should aspire to this.

Even if we don't strike at Galati from the Sea, we have plenty of naval infantry that can strike at random German units caught near the cost all the way from Rostov to Galati. German and Romanian Infantry use that coastal road to move forward in stacks, there's no reason why a freighter or two filled with naval infantry can't knock off the stacks or single units caught in the open.

As for the possible airport in Vologda, the airport in Archangelsk is nearing completion and should help supply the northern fronts, although it is 4 spots farther away from Leningrad by road

We could use Archangelsk for fighter production, and have Vologda build defensive ground units. In the summer, a distance of four isn't such a big problem, since we haven the roads open again! We need the fighters as soon as possible, they are the only fast anti-aircraft units we have, AA batteries will be sitting ducks on the roads to our frontcities. Comrade Marshal, I would have Moscow produce LA-5's until we can get some from other cities.

As for the attack on Galati, it gives us some more trade and takes this money away from the gErmans, plus we can reinforce it very easily every turn (a freighter can croos the Black sea to Galati in one turn). It's most of the time very light guarded (some fighters, or just one infantry or such) and we have then the possibility to attack Bucharest, which gives us all the oilfields and I think also triggers some events (I should check this).

(I had in real planned a raid on Kherson, but i can put thoose troops on Galati too)

Isn't it too late though right now? Summer is going to begin soon and the German aircraft are powerful again, I bet they would just love to sink a transport ful of naval infantry! I think we need to wait until next winter.

If we have the Convoy System wonder, we can move from Sevastopol to Galati in one turn.

I have often used Cruisers to good effect attacking German units massed on the N coast of the Black Sea. Naval Infantry would work, though not as well... and watch out for the U-boats!

This will probably only work in winter, when the german airforce is uneffectif. We should prepare everything to launch the offensive immediately when the next winter starts.
