I like it out in the open. If someones join date is important enough to be displayed in each post, then their local time is even more important.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

The MP gang wil love it.
Between sigs, flags, and local time, you get a nice snapshot of posters.

I would have prefered this placed in profile or something.

        why would one prefer that?
Does it bother you? I can't see the complain......
Don't say it'll take extra bandwidth, since those few digits won't.

Considering that I'm on a 56K dialup that's always connected to 12Kbps because of the crummy phone lines.... yes.

More importantly, it looks stupid. But it is useful I guess.

Give it a capital T though... and the forum clock is five minutes slow.

The servers should be upgrade to WinXP, they will dial-up an atomic clock and get the true time. Do this every month or so.

Can you imagine how much downtime there would be if the server ran on Windows?

As settler.apolyton.net runs RedHat Linux, you could easily use one of the many NTP clients available for Linux to automatically synchronise the clock with any good and reliable public NTP server.

You don't have to use some stinking M$ Windows XP Server or Advanced Server for just synchronising with an NTP server. And the costs for hosting would rise, as those licenses aren't exactly cheap compared to Linux.

I wouldn't and I don't trust that feature too much as it only includes 2 servers to choose from time.windows.net (M$) and time.nist.gov. Those servers aren't necessarily running NTP servers synchronised by an atomic clock. I could set up my server as an NTP server and you would still get lured that I would have an atomic clock.

My suggestion for those who want to synchronise their PC clocks with real atomic clocks, is to use a freeware program called Dimension 4. Very handy and has plenty of servers included. Forget about some time.windows.net! Why not synchronise with an atomic clock at Trinity College?

Oh, forgot to say that I'm pleased with this new little feature. Hopefully there's more to come.

If you don't want others to know where you are from you can pick a random time in the control panel, do you think some people will pick there favorite time like they did flags?
