It was around before the Firkin chain was. They bought it for a while, and had a go at turning it into a "fun pub" (the evil, evil swine). I don't know if they still own it, but it's a class above their evil empire.

For anyone who's interested, the Firkin in York is known as the Phalanx & Firkin. Unfortunately, it's still there...

            • That's very interesting.

In Reading we had 2, the one left is the Fez and Firkin. Used to be the Kings Head which was a wicked pub.

I knew I should have put a in there.

If you did that here you would be laughed at by everyone.

Although McDonalds do serve beer "to-go" in some of their restaurants in Europe, it has never taken off as a pub activity. Bottles or glasses sure, if you nick them, but styrofoam, NOOOOOOO WAAAAYYYY!!!

if it gets your beer from one place to another effectively..why does it matter?

f it gets your beer from one place to another effectively..why does it matter?
                    • It looks silly, and...
                    • It's illegal anyway.

McDonalds doesn't serve alcohol here either. It's main purpose is as a public lavatory.

                    • why is beer in styrofoam illegal?
who cares what is looks like?
                      (inside joke: moo moo!)
(p.s. when has something being illegal stopped anyone before )

                      • I don't know if beer in styrofoam is illegal. It's certainly not illegal for pubs to give you beer to take home if they have the right license.

I agree with DM, anything that transports your beer is fine.

I can't imagine beer in McDonalds would be very nice!

Beer in styrofoam just seems odd. Beer should come in glasses or bottles. Similarly in reasoning - I wouldn't drink wine out of a mug.

                          It's illegal anyway

Do you mean it is illegal to have beer in styrofoam ( ) or illegal to drink beer in public (other than in places with a licence - hence the requirement for a licence)?

                          • isn't it only illegal if you get caught?
well..just because something is odd doesn't stop me from doing something logical. If all of a sudden people started eating **** and not eating **** became the norm...would you eat **** just so you weren't the odd one out?
wine, from what i've heard, is a little different. You need to drink from wine glasses and hold it by the stem so it retains flavor because temperature affects the flavor.
                            is this so with beer?

mike h: what if they added a beer flavor to their mcflurry's????

Really? So you AREN'T supposed to drink straight from the bottle? THAT'S where I've been going wrong lately
