Situation: Have not been able to post since the Upgrade
    * Try to post. Get a popup screen asking for me to Register/Logon. I log on, and then get a dialog screen that says Thank You.
    * Cycle back and try to post. Get the Register/Logon screen again. I log in, but this time it says to contact the Administrator.
    * Note - Googlie posted as me using my Username and Password and it worked fine.

I know this therefore I avoid to post with Netscape4.5. As I posted my last post I didn't saw this post, because instaed of loading this threat ME5 give me a bannercode

Now I downloaded Opera5 a great browser. While you are loading a page you can see how many images the page contains, information about the speed in bytes per seconds it shoould be kilobytes but that was the Aplyton site that was so slow and there is also information about the loading 10 minutes I think that is a little bit to slow for a page like Apolyton. I needed over half an hour to go to the post reply page with opera5 like with the other browsers on the first day of the forum upgrade. But I wasn't able to post there. I got also this message:

    vBulletin Message
No thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the webmaster
And than Opera5 crashed. Now I posted this with ME5. I hope these errors will be gone when I got my new comp.

      • i have this problem: even on light mode, when a thread spans multiple pages, i don't always get to read the entire thread. why? because when a page loads, most of the time it will cut off in the middle of the thread, so get to read maybe the first 20 posts and then can't read anything below it, including the next 20 and the lower navigation buttons.

i can't tell you how irritating this is, particularly because the only way i can get the full page after that is to clear the browser's memory and disk caches, stopping every other use of bandwidth, and then crossing my fingers.

i tell you, it's caused a significant hit on my enjoyment of the forums, particularly because i can't browse using multiple windows anymore.

and it happens to me on all three major browsers (netscrap, flopera, and ai-eeeee) on a sweet earthlink 56k connection.

          • Attachements and Great Library

We have some problems with "condensed" threads (an example: "Info: diplomats and spies" thread)

            1. May the size limit of a post be increased?

            2. May the size limit of an attachements be increased?

            3. Can I add an attachement to a post with no attachement or to a post which attachement was deleted?

              • Just one small problem now (so far, fingers crossed). I don't seem to ba able to vote in polls. After selecting an option an clicking Vote, I just get a blank white page, with what looks like it might be a correct URL (eg http://apolyton.net/forums/poll.php?...optionnumber=1). Counting the votes before and after, I can verify that my vote was not in fact counted. Any ideas?

                • Chowlett, maybe you attempted to vote in a poll that had already been closed? There's an option when creating a poll for how long people should be allowed to cast votes. Try voting to another, newly created, poll and see if that may be the cause for the trouble you're having with those other polls.

Tomorrow I'll post here about a few issues/questions with the upgrade that I've scribbled on an old envelope lately , and which haven't been discussed so far. Too tired now...

                  • I'm fairly certain the polls haven't been closed, as responses have come in after me, so that isn't it.

And damn it, I'm getting that "You must revert your modifyoptions template" again! Grr .

                    • Thank you for a good job with this upgrade.
(now for the ungrateful whiny user part)

I too am having problems with the forum pages being extended beyond the screen width; not perhaps to as great an extent as SnowFire's earlier post, but annoying nonetheless. I see much white space in the thread titles column and still need to scroll to the right to read the last post(er) time (nice info). Unlike SnowFire, I haven't seen any obvious long topics causing this to happen, but it could be in some old thread perhaps. Wrapping of long topics would be a good fix if that is the problem. Naturally, I did not find consolation in your reply to him: "it wraps for me".

I sometimes have an invisible cursor in the reply page; even at best, it is flickery and kinda thin, but when it is missing, it is a real pain to post. The totally missing cursor seems to be related to being low on sys resources as in having SMAC loaded at the same time as I'm on line, but I'd like to think that we could have greater expectations of the upgraded system than the old one (which could handle this). As you might imagine, even a big obnoxious cursor would be better than nothing.

I like the inclusioin of the spell checker, but I am reluctant to check the *don't show me this again* boxes on the *you are about to send ... over the internet* messages as they seem to apply to the "internet zone". If you don't check it, you get a couple of those boxes for each suspect word plus a few more for good measure. I could check it, but I am otherwise happy with this security level in general (just a few CRs added onto each search query), but there are too many in a typical spell check, especially with game jargon and abbr. included. It would be nice if you said that checking the box would have no effect outside this spell checker, but you'd have to mean it.

This is probably a temporary thing and you probably know it already, but in case you don't, today I've been getting recurring messages about one of the ad banners not getting loaded (the one that's not Chips & Bits apparently).

Is it really true that there is no way to uncheck the Show Sig box by default?

Thanks again for all the hard work that must have gone into this change. (this graphic is a nice idea, but a little bland maybe?

                        • Browser rendering problems, including page too wide

I found that you can usually cure brower rendering problems by reloading.

However the existence of these problems seem to point to the use of abnormal HTML coding in the vBB scripts. Markos you might want to run a validator to see if the code sticks to W3C standards. I looked at the source and it looks quite dreadfully complicated. BTW if you use CSS why not use an external stylesheet to reduce loading time?

i seem to recall that one of the changes in this version was w3c compliant code. of course after my modifications....

cant be done cause the colors are variables which first have to be read form the database.....

BTW, I'm still getting the apparent bad link to one of your ads (IE cannot open the internet site .... (adserver link to gamestats?) .... Timed out).

The refresh/reload doesn't do it. Its just the main part of the (forum) pages that don't resize for me; the header/footer portions and the main bodies of the thread postings pages all resize (at least to some degree) if I resize the window. Its as if there is a minimum width specified, which for me is a little beyond 1024 pixels; if I were running at 800 x 600, I would mostly see the thread topic column (with about 1/2 of it blank). This is really just a minor annoyance for me, but if I were running 800x600 or less, it would be a big PIA.
