Just got a strange popup, it was about twice the width of my 17" screen and just stayed blank for 5 min, anyone else had this?

Are you sure you didn't accidentally turn your monitor off?

Ctrl F4 or Alt F4 will get rid of that popup so you can see the rest of your screen again.

Or you could use a pop up killer. Google has a new toolbar that kills pop ups, too. Anyone tried it?

Yup...I've had it. It is a popup that downloads Gator

At first, it did nothing on my system. After I'd had it a couple of times, I turned off my firewall. The next time I got it, it downloaded Gator.

Has anyone got the one with a bright red screen and the words "STOP, your machine is in danger of being infected..........click here"?

Funny thing is suspicious ol' me decided that my machine was not in danger, unless it was from that ad, and closed it. I am kinda curious though.

I get that one regurarly but never the gator one and I don't use any pop-up or firewall.

Well if I understand it correctly a firewall wouldn't stop the gator ad...............though a pop-up killer would.

Spikey: My firewall (ZoneAlarm Pro) doesn't stop the popup itself. But it does prevent that pop-up from downloading and installing anything on my system. That's called "Mobile code blocking"

I'm to lazy to read the thread. Have we solved the gator problem yet?

                              Even if you click 'yes'?

I have a hardware firewall, but I have seen the Gator install prompt. I thought a firewall blocked inbound connections, so wouldn't necessarily be relevant here, unless ZoneAlarm Pro has additional features.

Just got hit with the gator pop-up again.

I grabbed the source info from this very WIDE pop-up that seems to spawn just before the gator installer opens:
