Odd, WoA, works fine for me and Ras

    Ras,
Yeah, it does seem a little off, doesn't it? But it's the closest thing I could find...

But all credit to DanQ: he once had to pronounce my real name (Wouter Snijders) during an ACSR broadcast and did so flawlessly I don't know many English speakers who can do that without me having to explain it first (and I know a good number of English speakers IRL)

Edit: IIRC it was Ming who pronounces it Appleton -- that's got to be my favourite

Funnily enough, I have never had any occasion to say the word out loud.

If pressed, however, I suppose I would pronounce if A-pol-uh-tun.

I've got it now. It was just Mozilla getting together with Norton to be a pair off arses. Thanks

Ape-Oh-Lay-Ton is just sooo wrong for me.

I hope this is somewhat okay as I know I sound awful. I first pronounced the full name with the Greek pronounciation Dan mentions and then with the normal pronounciation I use when speaking of Poly (however I usually only say Apolyton).

The way it appears in my head is exactly the way you say it first. I must have a flair for language.

Thanks Rasby. The first one is how I say it too. Is this official? We need Marko to hear your mp3 to confirm it, I suppose.

Yeah, but she just calls it "that stupid site", which I find much easier to pronounce.

Maybe that's because how DanQ always pronounces it?

The 2nd one sounds like what DanQ calls the 'Canadian/American version'. That's even further off from how I pronounce it...

I say it in French, the way it is written.
In English, that would look like Ah-Poll-ea-ton (ton is a nasal sound in French, I can think of no equivalent in other languages I know)

Yeah, after listening to Rasbey's mp3 I can say that I use the first version too. That's exactly what my odd phonetic example was supposed to be in my previous post.

There's a clear European consensus on the issue then

I do the same. When the site first started, we didn't know the right pronunciation, and since we actually discussed the site face to face, that's what we used, and it seems to have stuck with us despite attempts by others to correct it. When discussing it on ICQ chat with other posters, I'll use Poly to avoid taking abuse about calling it APPLETON.

                                Ah-po-lee-ton.

the "o" in "po" sounds like the "o" in "God".

That's how I pronounce it. In portuguese, the emphasis is naturally on the "po". A-po-lee-ton
