    • What is going on in this thread?

      -Jam
It's degenerated into a spam thread.

Your idea about AI-aiding in the next ACDG?
Nah trying to figure out new concepts for improving PBEMs in general. In an effort to make the game more interesting or fixing precieved problems. I was partly hoping the ACDG would like to try one of the new concepts, because I figured that the people there would be more open to new ideas. However, with everything so far I keep get the feeling that the people that have responded well are just being nice to me.

      • Kody: Looking for a way to improve a PBEM?
        Then try...
        -=H Y P E R * T U R N S=- v. 3

        The idea:
All turns are attached to the forum.
While a player is making his turn, the GMs open up his turn start, press END TURN and repost to forums.

That way, you don't have to wait if someone is late - there's a penalty turn already waiting.

Every player has Deadlines, such as:
"If the turn is sent between X and Y, then I play it before Z."
The average turn delay would be set a maximum number.

You'd need a GM on the boards at all times, so multiple GMs are necessary for this.
        ------

The main problem is that some dunce will play on from the penalty turn, even though the previous player got the turn in on time.
Let's say the dunce is B, and the stifled player is A.

A notices its 2105 start turn does -not- match the orders he gave and sent to B's start in 2104.
So, play continues from B's start in 2104 (as B has played on from the GM's turn instead of A's turn).
Meanwhile, the GMs open up B's start turn in 2104 and hammer END TURN until it gets to A's start in 2105.
This represents the orders A gave in 2104, which purportedly haven't been fulfilled.
This turn is compared with the turn A complained about.

If A was lying, his -new- 2105 turn will be skipped.
If B was a dunce, his 2105 turn will be skipped.
        ------

I proposed this to ChairmanSlick, who noticed this scheme wasn't foolproof.
So, I'll re-propose it to Kody - he's smarter than ChairmanSlick.

        • I see the main problems with your idea as follows.

          * Finding a gamemaster that would be willing to invest so much time
          * Finding players are that aggressive enough with their turn playing that they will be willing to go for the no excuses you missed your turn thing.

I'm afraid that I'm not much good at cocereing people into new ideas Enigma. My method has always been to keep giving people as many different options as possible until they accept one.

It only looked like people listen to me because I did my best to eliminate most of the options I know people won't accept.

          • Its good to cut people some slack, but it would also be good if whoever has the turn would play it and send it on sometime this life.

Why does every PBEM always have one slow coach?

              I'll stop myself from flaming.......SO......

Deacon Frankychan contemplated his next move. The Believer across from him just finished setting his bishop down. The chess board between them was almost empty, except for a few pieces scattered here and there.

"Deacon, you don't have much pieces left....just concede."

The Deacon stroked his chin and laughed.

"True, I may not win.....but a stalemate is just as good. So long as you don't win, I do."

Jamski must have thought I had the turn and he knows I'm just a big teddy and can't hurt him. Frankychan however is a whole different matter.

                      FrankyChan
                      HongHu
                      Plan:
                      Remove slow factions.

BS you're a teddy bear, Kody. You were judgemental of me before the ACDG, acknowledged the failure of the Hive normal government...
                      and you're playing the spartans.

I was judgemental, because you just happened to start posting a few hours after we announced we were kicking out everyone that didn't post to clear our infiltrators. It just seems very suspicious to me, as if you had been quietly reading everything and had started posting to avoid being kicked out. Rather than leaving you in the dark, I told you that we had some suspicions.

Also I had to explain that to you as you seemed intent on leaping in without even bothering to gain the trust of the team. Any other person would have let you leap in and hang yourself, as you wouldn't have allowed the hive members to first warm up to you before telling them what to do and where to go.

Now that I have just actually passed some judgement on you, you can complain about me being judgemental.

                        • MY 2105
The rain slanted down in thick curtains turning thick mud into a liquidly goo. It made a squelching noise as I walked, clinging to my boots with each step. The mud would start freezing soon as winter was approaching, frozen like the icy tundra found nearer the pole. Winter so soon. It marked the passing of another year on this planet.

As I walked the buildings of Spartan Command crowded around me, the dark grey blocks barely visible in the dim moonlight; my companions. It was a miserable night for a walk, but it fit my mood. I had the bad dream again. I had hoped it would go away with time, but it lingered instead in the recesses of my mind like an unwelcomed guest. Although it wasn’t getting any easier to deal with, at least it wasn’t getting any worse.

I needed something to occupy my time, some task that would need taking care of. Building or planning, something I could bury myself in such that I would forget who I was. Where as Santiago? She had been busy on the radio and then had hastily departed on the rover without a word. That was two years ago and there had been no communication from her since. In the mean time I managed the city. Not because it was my job, but because Santiago had not bothered to address the command structure during her brief stay in the city. Since I had overseen the building of the city, the others had agreed that I would take temporary command until Santiago said otherwise.

Why had she left in such a hurry? I was convinced she had been communicating with another of the escape pods. What I didn’t understand was why, when the crew of the Unity had fought us so fiercely, and I wasn’t aware of any allies to the Spartans. It perplexed me.

Some icy water dripped down my collar reminding me of why I was out here. I was out here so I could feel more sorry for myself. Trudging around in the middle of a cold rainy night made it easy to believe I was the most miserable person on the planet.

“Get up!” a faint voice echoed among the silent buildings. “The enemy would show you no mercy no matter how much you grovel in the mud!“

I peered into the rain and noticed some lights ahead. There was also faint splashing that I had missed while wallowing in my self pity. Cautiously I made my way around a building to see what had disturbed my walk.

“Anger will make you stronger, now get up and keep running” it was the voice of a sergeant. “So you hate me? Well what are you going to do about it?”

I slid around a corner and looked into a training ground where several soldiers were running laps and pointedly ignoring the interchange between a sergeant and a private. The first thing I noticed was they looked more miserable than me.

“So you’ve got a knife”, the sergeant laughed. “Well go on we don’t have all night.”

The private lunged forward. The small blade flashed in the halogen floodlights. The sergeant stepped back a step. Caught the wrist with his right hand and pushed upwards. With his left hand, he slammed his palm into the forearm of the private. There was a sickening crunch. The sergeant crouched and swept a leg behind the private’s knee.

I watched the knife spinning through the air long after the private was on the ground.

“You hesitated”, the sergeant said flatly. “Either you kill or be killed, never hesitate.” The sergeant took the private’s good hand and in an act of comradeship pulled him to his feet.

“You’ve got a broken arm, but that won’t stop the enemy from killing you”, the sergeant shouted. “Now run!”

Slowly the private started jogging around the yard, holding on to his arm.

Kill or be killed. It may be true, but it didn’t absolve me of my guilt. I stepped back into the muddy shadows to continue my walk and bury my ghosts with exhaustion.

Let's see, I'm working 2 jobs, going to college, and in the middle of finals for my college. I'm thankful that most ppl here are understanding that for most people, a turn-slowdown wouldn't be surprising in my situation.

But, I won't speak of this anymore to spare this thread from my flaming.
