    My favourite social engineering choices depend on the faction I'm using...

    Gaians: Police State, Planned, Knowledge, Cybernetic

    Hive: Police State, Planned, Power, Eudaimonia

    University: Democratic, Planned, Knowledge, Cybernetic

    Morganites: Fundamentalist, Free Market, Knowledge, Cybernetic

    Spartans (favourite faction): Democratic, Planned, Power, Eudaimonia

    Believers: Fundamentalist, Free Market (with Punishment spheres), Power, Thought Control

    Peacekeepers: Democratic, Green, Power, Cybernetic

      Interesting combo for the peacekeepers. I'll have to try that one out. Never thought to run 'em under power.

        Play Gaians with Police State - just imagine the citizen who puts its litter out of the bin and get its nerve cut, lol...

          I figured that under Power, the Support penalty of Democratic could be neutralized. Later on, when you need a large military, an above negative support rating is important.

          Religion does hold huge sway over most of the people of the world. I wouldn't find it a surprise if Morgan sold out on it since he seems to have the intent of selling everything out.

          But I pick that choice as Morgan so that it is easier to probe the enemy. Rather than conquering bases with troops that will generate drones with the -5 police of Free Market, I can simply subvert them with Mind Control. Having Free Market with Morgan means that he will easily be able to pay for it.

          The reason I pick Police State as the Gaians is because later on, the -1 Police really does tend to bite. Also, there has to be some way of supporting those hordes of demon boil mind worms that the Gaians are best at using, since conventional troops with won't be fighting too well with the -1 Morale penalty.

            My choices usually go to Demo/Knowledge/Green/Eudaimonia. Yes, yes, i'm a treehugging idealist, so sue me already I can never be bothered with Free Market, the ecodamage and lack of police is a massive PIA, and I never seem to need the money anyway. Efficiency plugs the gap, if not as effectively at least a lot more cleanly.
            Knowledge can be a bit of a pain, though, at least until one builds the HSA. Once I actually got beaten to it (wow! The AI actually learnt not to sell vital technology to me! I'm impressed!) and was forced to switch off Knowledge before I got probed into oblivion.

            Eudy is a great idea, and I love the quote for it:

              As the Gaians are my favorite, I havent seen a problem with this. I go for the straight explore path and pick up those wonders along the way which boost alien life cycle (Xeno and pholus). Throw in base improvements, and you can still spit out demon boils no prob. The support is an obstacle, but building all forests, Im generating a fair enough amount of minerals to support 4 or 5 native life per base-not too bad.

              Even with a 10% psych allocation, I've noticed the police rating is a non factor, especially with tree farms in place and later hybrids.

              I've been trying to wean myself off of the Gaians. I'm playing my current game as Yang, and it seems almost too easy, at least in SP. The ability to generate hordes of Missile infantry is almost too much But still fun just the same.

                For SMAC: Peacekeepers with Democracy, Planned, Knowledge, Greek word for happiness. [sorry forgot spelling] Well I can't remeber the EXACT stats however I do remember that I had no minusesses.

                IRL: Democracy, Planned, Knowledge, and Greek word again.

                I keep the people happy with the greek thing and Democracy and get to do what I want with the money and brain power

                  you would have had -2 morale -2 probe and -2 support. all of which can be countered by SPs though (cyborg factory, Hunter seeker, and living refinery)

                  the greek thing (eudaimonia) and democracy only INDIRECTLY make people happy by increasing your energy output, and even then you have to crank up the psych. that isn't a bad combo though. +6 growth, +2 econ, +2 research +3 industry; not bad!

                    Planned Economy isnt the best way to make money... I thought it was rather Growth/Industrious...
                    Anyway, your settings are my favourite settings too. Just apply them to Free Drones and you'll se what rocks !

                      the money is coming from eudaimonia. +2 economy means +1 energy/square. that turns out to be a lot!

                        And so you make the money AND make people happy with the same thing. Eudaimonia is just great.

                        +2 Efficiency, + 2 Planet, +2 Research, -3 Police
                        Efficiency make less waste, and allows you to have more bases, which is more important.

                        +2 Economy, + 2 Industry, +2 Growth, -2 Moral
                        Eco gives you more credits for science, Industries gives u more Supply Crawler/Orbital Energy for more energy for science, growth gives you more population for more energy, but excessive growth can be negative though. With a 70Lab/20Tax/10Psy you do good investments with your credits

                        I think +2Research/+2Efficiency is not as good for science as the +2Economy/+2Efficiency/+2 Growth, and the -3 Police is far more annoying than the -2 moral and the risk of excessive growth...

                        I think Eudaimonia is better than Cybernetic, even for research. It depends of ur energy allocation, but Cybernetic worth Eudaimonia only with the Cyborgs

                        (but I think there's a SP or a tech that suppress the negative effects on Cybernetic, am I wrong ?)

                            When u have Democracy, Planned, Eudaimonia : +6 Growth, meaning +1 population in each base as long as you got the nutriments to feed them. And this new citizen is a drone. When you cant handle all these new drones, that is what I call excessive growth.

                            You can, indeed use specialist to handle them. But if you have to check your specialists for each of your 60+ bases at every turn to anticipate the drones, I find that kinda odd...

                              Well I'm the peacekeepers so any advantages I get stick. Plus the ineffeciency is easily countered with my social engineering. If you guys look closely at my stats and my faction [peacekeepers] represent the way I like to play the best. A balanced game that doesn't execl at anything but doesn't have any weaknesses to exploit. Plus in the game I'm playing I've got like 4 monoliths so I pay No attention to morale. Also if Free Drones are a faction for the expansion well I don't have the expansion. So does anyone know where I could get it?
