Do it. By an executive order of the Junta.
If they want to play hardball, then we shall play hardball. Once you post here that the embassy is closed, I'll send a curt reply to Illuminatus to tell them why the board is offline. I won't tell him why we took it offline, of course. They can feel free to decipher the reason themselves. Then it's time to start driving a wedge between the Angels and the Gaians.

Wait a second, should I post something like what Maniac suggested first:
before we close the embassy? What's wrong with you Gaian weasels?!? In Maniac's initial inquiry, if we trade we both get Doctrine: Loyalty, and if we don't trade we both get nothing. What could be more fair than that? So what are we supposed to think when you even refuse that! If you want to refuse all the cooperation we offer and keep rotting in your technological inferiority, fine by me!
Just give me the word and I can do it quickly.
I like the idea of closing the embassy though, very Spartan

I posted in the embassy. Just added a little more Gaian-slashing to Maniacs initial draftOriginally posted by Googlie
Snoddasmannen - go ahead and post it in the Embassy - or PM it to Illuminatus as you did last time (or both)
And I thought of sending the little story by PM to a few of the Gaians, in the spirit of roleplaying
(or maybe we can get one of the mods to copy and post it in their private forum, under a "breaking news" thread or something)
b
Very cool idea. The story is certainly good enough to warrant a "breaking news" thread
Let's just hope they don't interpret it as an act of war.

Saw the post
I posted in the "maifesto" thread there - attached a screenie of Yang's 2145 production readout - 15 Impact units!!
I said that our last offer was our best one.
We're 12 hours away from the turn deadline, so let's see what happens

Illuminatis has replied to my post:
Do we close the embassy?I see Snoddasmannen has been authorised to make diplomatic contacts, or Sparta shows it cannot control violent outbursts of it's members, again. Giving you Doctrine: Loyalty grants you a tech which enables you to build a project, and a second one in very near future, especially powerful for you, while we get technology that is not useful for us. This is not cooperation, this is gain, gain for Spartans, and far from fair trade. Note that Spartans refused to cooperate before, deciding not to trade technologies, notably Doctrine: Flexibility and Ethical Calculus to Gaians - this has been remembered by the High Council. If Spartans do not wish to make a fair offer, fine by High Council. We are not in need of Doctrine: Loyalty, and we get Social Psych next turn in any case.
( I vote yes

I posted the followign reply to Illuminatus:
We have a few hours left before we need to wrap up the turn, so we can wait and see what that may bring. If nothing, then I'll take the Embassy offline at the same time as we post the turn, and ask Method or Drogue to post the short story in a Gaian threadPosted by Googlie in the Embassy

As Recording Officer to the Junta, Curator of the Museum, yadda, yadda etc, I can shed a little light on the Junta operations.
There are 2 distinct factions within our Junta, one of which is somewhat afraid of the lead that Morgan Industries appears to be generating (and as a result this faction - or "wing" - has favoured strong co-opration with the Gaian Union, and, if the Union's ties go deep, with the Data Angels as well). From this faction grew the Maniac Manifesto, the intent of which was to ensure that our 3 factions (Angels, Gaians and Sparta) would be sufficiently strong, togetehr, to offset the lead that Morgan Industries was building.
A second faction - or "wing" - believes that the way to proceed is to work closely with Morgan Industries, to set the stage so that either they can pursue an economic victory while at the same time the Federation proceeds to victory along the more conventional military and diplomatic route. There would be a degree of "May the best philosophy win", but it undeniably has its adherents within the Junta.
It is against this backdrop that the "Gaian wing", feeling emboldened and in the asendancy within the Junta, made its offers of technology co-operation.
The Union's rejection of our advances - or, to be more precise, the acceptance - subject to our agreeing to add unreasonable sweeteners to the transaction - have seriously diminshed the ability of the "Gaian wing" to argue cogently and coherently in Junta sessions for any reply other than "OK - then there is no deal". (My post, in the other concurrent thread, where I attached the Hive's production data, was a last ditch attempt to persuade the Union through logic what your hearts were denying)
There is no doubt that following this decisive failure of the "Gaian wing" to deliver the goods, the "Morgan wing" feels commensurately emboldened. So Captain Snoddasmannen, rather than "being aithorized" is "flexing his muscles", as it were, as a Junta leader to castigate the Union for its short-sightedness.
And both "wings" have strong champions.
In retrospect, when Chiron's history is written, the Gaians' intransigence in 2146 may well go down as the turning point that handed victory to Morgan Industries.

Very well put. It's not every day you get to use a word like intransigenceOriginally posted by Googlie
I posted the followign reply to Illuminatus:
We should make sure that the Gaians have a chance to read your post on the embassy before closing it though. We have a few hours left before we need to wrap up the turn, so we can wait and see what that may bring. If nothing, then I'll take the Embassy offline at the same time as we post the turn, and ask Method or Drogue to post the short story in a Gaian thread
Also, for what it's worth. Illuminatis edited this part:
to this:I see Snoddasmannen has been authorised to make diplomatic contacts, or Sparta shows it cannot control violent outbursts of it's members, again.
Seems about the same to me, why bother to change it?I see Snoddasmannen has been authorised to make diplomatic contacts, or Sparta has lost grip on its members again.
And hey, if/when we re-open the embassy, we should have edited their posts, cramming them with insults or obscenities, to simulate the extensive vandalism caused by anti-Gaian subversives. Or perhaps we should do that before we close it and hope they get a glimpse of it
Gaian soldiers groom with mindworm droppings
Ok maybe not such a hot idea ... I'm just trying to think outside the box
