  • I'd like to propose two hurry suggestions for next year:

The colony pod in SC3 will still be 8 minerals away from completion. The mineral production of that base is 6. This means a hurry order of 2 minerals - or in other words 5 credits - would be enough to get the CP MY 2141.

When we build our new east coast base next year, we could immediately start production of a transport foil, and have 10 of the 30 required minerals accumulated. If the base worker is placed on the mineral bonus tile, we'd have a min production of 4, and hurrying 16 minerals - or 48 credits at 3c per min - is the price to get the transport the next turn already.
It's not cheap, but it would greatly speed up infiltration of the UoP. Do it or not?

Btw, how will we call that new eastern base?
One name I was thinking about is "Vladivostok". That's Russian for "Rule the East". That would be a quite fitting name if we'd use that base as a springboard for a conquest of the University. Though of course we could use that name for any conquered UoP base, and call our own founded base something else.

      Go for it!

Ideally, we need to time the production of the transport with when the probe teams will arrive there. I would wait until the turn before the probe teams are ready to board, and rush the remaining mins for the transport. I can't really analyze the turn too much, but if the probe teams will be ready to go soon, then I'd say rushing the transport immediately for 48 ECs would be a great investment.

      And Vladivostok sounds great.

      • Oh, wait, I also would like to add:

Perhaps we should consider boosting labs production in order to research EcoEng more quickly. That is, if we can't get it from Zak or Yang first. Normally, I would suggest focusing on EC production, but because EcoEng is such a valuable tech, and since we could be the first one's to obtain it for a while, it might be benefitial in this particular instance to focus on researching that. If we set the Labs to 60%, how many years could we get it in?

That's one of the problems with hardly having any active Spartans: besides me, no one else was here with SMAX who could open the turn and check some AI diplomacy. As a consequence we've missed out on a great opportunity.

Hopefully (with Sparta's newest recruit ) that won't be a problem any more...

            9 years.
Just one less than the current 10 years...
I can get it down to 8 years, but I have to relocate population at three bases.

            It don't look good Zeiter...

            • Hmmm, what the econ production at 60% labs, 10% psych, and 30% econ? It might be worth it to get EcoEng one or two turns earlier. As we establish new bases these next few turns, that will also help us research it more quickly. We might be able to get it down to 8 turns, which wouldn't be too bad.

              • Oh yeah. We're founding a new base.
(I suppose the colony pod just sitting on the coastline should have been a give away...)
I'm looking at it for you - between episodes of real life.
                I'll be with you soon...

                Edit: Okay...

At 30/10/60 we're looking at +1 e.c.'s (net) / year, and 16 labs / year. We have 15 labs accumulated with 155 labs required till breakthrough.

If I relocate population onto rivers at; Sparta Command, Gythium Harbour, and Olympus Academy... I can squeeze another 2 total net labs for the faction. Giving us 18 labs / year with a projected breakthrough in M.Y.2147.

Even with the new base at coordinates (66, 12) adding another lab (cause I can't see it giving us more that that), we won't be able to shave it down to 7 years.

Also, the relocation of population at the above three bases, will hamper our mineral production - slowing our builds.

As much as I'd like to offer a better suggestion at this time - I just got here, and am having a hard time trying to understand a few things.

                • I'm finally back fellow Spartans. I've been on travel the last several weeks guaranteeing the survival of the Western World and frequenting establishments of ill repute '). Working in the field and crashing in 2-bit hotels didn't give me the opportunity to stay pace with the game. I will get up to speed ASAP...First Spear

                  • Well - we'll have Vladivostok built next turn with a trannie rushed, and it'll set off on its mission in 2141.

If - as the map would seem to indicate (look at the topography- see below) - the Uni isn't far away, we'll be able to steal a tech or two well before we could research it ourselves.

                    The big question is:

Should we use one of our probes to infiltrate, and then steal a tech with the other, or go for 2 techs immediately with infiltration at a later date?

                    • my vote is to steal as much tech as possible from the Uni since they have a leg-up on research over all the other factions. also, build a probe defender in Vlad to counter Uni infiltration...First Spear

I guess that'll have to do. I agree, no sense in relocating workers. Thanks for the info.

I'd make sure to get infiltration first. It's an easy morale upgrade for one of our probes, and the info is almost priceless. Then, since the Uni continent isn't too far away (very nice ) we can probe him over and over again.

Ok everybody, humor me, remember I'm a newbie

What is so valuable about the information given to us by that infiltration?

Could it be more worthwile to get that tech a couple of turns earlier?

Is it much more difficult to get that infiltration when you are already in a state of war?

I have many questions, mr Sparkle!

                            • I'd go for infiltration with the first probe team then steal a tech with the second for the following reasons:
                              • As Maniac says, we'll get a morale upgrade with that first probe team - invaluable later
                              • As soon as we steal that first tech Zak will build probe defenders like crazy - we might never get another chance at infiltration (or if we do, it might cost us a probe or two to get it)
                              • If he declares vendetta on us as a result of the probe action, we'll want to know how strong (or weak) his base defenses are for our invasion forces
                              • in this type of PBEM one can never have enough information early enough on all factions

                              • OK - 2140 turn opened and in mid-play. Following moves have been made:
                                • Vladivostok founded and transport foil hurried to completion for 48 ec's. Rehomed the travelling scout to that base to free up a mineral at its old home
                                • One probe team in the base, the second will arrive next turn in time to board the trannie
                                • Hurried CraterWest's Colony Pod for 5 mins
                                • The road to the mine has been completed above Olympus Academy - moved one of the formers east to link Vladivostok by road
                                • The travelling Alien Artifact and escort are now 1 tile closer to Harbour
                                • The Colony Pod boarded the trannie and now is in position to make landfall next turn - the AA's escort will backtrack to serve as a protector for that base (too near the fungus for my liking)
                                • I moved the Scout Rover (from Santiago Citadel) back through Harbour to tag-team for the AA's protection
                                • The former East of CraterSouth has moved east to finish the road linking that base to the Eurotas River
                                • SCC Hunter moved north and discovered a small tip of land - no contact yet, though
                                • SCC Invincible moved into the bay and moored overnight under the watchful eyes of the PeaceKeeper base garrison at UN Planning Authority. I hailed Lal and offered a Treaty, but he politely declined

                                Questions:
                                • Orders for the former currently between CraterWest and CraterSouth (farm has been completed)
                                • Build orders for:
                                  > Sparta Command (currently 1/2 of first of 2 rows towards a former)
                                  > Gythium Harbour (7/10ths of first of 5 rows towards a foil probe team)
                                  > Olympus Academy (9/10ths of first of 2 rows towards an infantry probe team (Boy Scouts)- will cost us 4 mins next turn to change our minds)
                                  > Fort Buster (1st of 2 rows completed for a Boy Scout - will cost us 2 mins next turn to change our minds)
                                • Is 58:28 the site for the next base? Name?
                                • Our best minerals bases are Olympus Academy, at 9 mins per turn, followed by Sector CraterWest at 6 and santiago Citadel at 5 - what should we be building there?
                                • When do we want to start on a SeaFormer (presumably at GH)
