  • Covert Operations - General (2101 - 2124)

Not much to report, really, except as is commented on elsewhere, the Angels discovered their first tech (thereby taking the tech lead from us)

It isn't Centauri Ecology, nor Doc Mobility (which latter surprises me, as the Angels are primarily the old PEACE faction, and I thought they'd beeline for foil probes)

This suggests one of two research lines:
    • Industrial Base >>> Industrial Economics >>> Industrial Automation
    • Applied Physics >>> Nonlinear Mathematics

While these are just guesses, with their starting techs they can either beat us to Impact Weapons, (thus partially nullifying our early advantage) or beat Morgan to Industrial Automation.

All team factions are still running Frontier/Simple/Survival, and are still at size 2 population (but we know that the Hive has the population lead)

then i think they take the first one being the angels....but being ex-pirates they might want to avoid the same disaster as last time and go for non. math....

Wow, how did you manage to dig this stuff up?
Civ IV is digital crack. If you are a college student in the middle of the semester, don't touch it with a 10-foot pole. I'm serious.

As Maniac mentioned in the battleorders thread, the Angels took the tech lead from us, which means that they now have 3 techs

Click on the commlink, then right click on the faction leaders (you need to have your line in the alphax.txt set to 0 to show leaders before contact is made) This gives you their SE choices and council votes (population, before any vote enhancing SP's)

Now click on a faction leader and offer all techs - this lets you see which techs we have that they don't (Mobility and Ecol)

Cool. So, gathering info this way is legal, I presume?

Also, I remember reading a thread in the ACDGII archives where Kody was doing some covert ops work for the Hive. He was able to report the number of people in each private forum at given times, trying to discern if there were some big events happening. Is this still possible? How does one monitor the private forum traffic?

Yes - pretty much in all PBEMs since the game's inception

I know that he did, but I don't know how he did it (he did spend countless hours hanging around the 'Ply forums, so maybe it was extremely time consuming)

Some other news. Now Morgan has taking the tech lead, probably meaning they've researched their third tech as well.

                Based on the following information:
                1) Morgan is running Free Market,
                2) The F9 monument screen shows they've built/hurried a facility in MY 2106 already,
                3) Morgan no longer has the lead in credits reserves,
                4) Due to the method described above we know they don't have Centauri Ecology yet,
I conclude that Morgan has the technologies of Biogenetics (and has hurried recycling tanks with their 100 starting credits - a tactic I've read previously in the AC-General forum) and Industrial Economics (due to running FM).

This also means they have +3 Economy SE now and will be swimming in money. We can expect them to take a heavy lead as the strongest of all four human factions (until someone else comes knocking on their door ).

This shows when people are logged on even if they have their settings to show they're offline all the time.

Combined with that I was clicking refresh at

how useful is that? If they have a lot of people online at the same time, could mean they have a big event. But that doesn't mean much to us now.

Now after we discover other human factions and they know our location. then it might be important information esp. if they are reasonably close to us. It could imply battle planning, but then again they could be planning for someone else. We should always be vigilant anyways.

Well, technically, it could have been built in 2108 (as they play before us). All we know is that when we open the 2108 turn (in which our Command Center is built) we don't get the "you are first" message

I conclude that Morgan has the technologies of Biogenetics (and has hurried recycling tanks with their 100 starting credits
                      I agree with that deduction

                      So who's our first target?

someone should be appointed to update this thread reculary(Chief Intelligence Officer or something. I don't know), or is the turn player doing it allready?

We can also see who got a facility first in the F9 monument screen. That way we can also deduce Morgan got their first researched tech Biogenetics in 2104.

                            aha - I didn't get/see that message when I opened the turn

As of 2109, no SP's started as of yet, and all human factions are still at size 2 pop

Here's the powergraphs from the 2109 turn:

Now, with Doc Flex, we are back in the tech lead!!

here's the charts from the 2110 turn (and as we, Morgan and the Angels all have 2 population, and are about the same size in powerbars, I deduce that we all have 3 techs, and that the Gaians have only 2 techs as of yet.

So no-one has popped a tech pod yet. But why doesn't the University have the tech lead? Why us?
