Upon further review, our former is in fungus this turn, and so was probably not noticed by the Spartan transport. Furthermore, on 2161, it popped a sea pod in our harbor and disembarked a unit to pop another pod on our land. The Spartans have invaded our territory so soon after dismissing our protests regarding mapping our coast. We spotted them, but they don't know we've spotted them.

Furthermore, a lucky guess has shown an empty Spartan cruiser transport to be adjacent to our transport foil in the north. The cruiser is hiding in fungus and probably wanted to pass through the passage recently blocked by our foil. An empty cruiser suggests units were dropped off on our territory, but sensor networks limit their possible locations to a few tiles to the east of our transport foil.

For some reason, we also got forest growth messages for locations near 5 (presumably) Spartan bases.

I think our best hope to counter the Spartans' mobility is air power. Garrisons aren't strong enough to resist attack, and in most cases Spartan rovers can stay out of range of our units until they're about to attack, particularly with amphibious units.

So we should arrange some deal with Morgan.

We're researching Env Econ which they have.
              They also posess SFF.

Thus given right circumstances we could get D:AP in around 10 turns or so..

What do we have to offer them though?

To some extent, it's in the Morganites' interest that we be prickly to the Spartans. Should they gain much from attacking us, the Morganites would be much worse off. Also, of all the human factions, we're the least threatening to the Morganites, since we're so distant, and our paths to them go through the Spartans, the Hive, or the Angels.

Please note that the Spartan transport near our formenr is moving AWAY from us and towards the Hive. If those troops were going to be used against us, they would already have landed on our shores.

Let's not go overboard with getting hostile towards Sparta just yet.

Lets build some defensive probe teams ASAP, please. Let's not get infiltrated! HQ can build one now if we give it the borehole.

We haven't declared war. We just know its inevitable. And probably a lot sooner than that. And how do we know they won't turn around?

A Spartan Foil transport can move 5 moves per turn. What holds it from moving 4 to S and then 1 to N after evcountering our former?

They could have attacked us years earlier when we were less prepared for it. Why should they attack us now instead? If you were Sparta, would you want both Morgan and Gaia as mortal enemies for the rest of the game?

Well there are some points your post is missing:
                            1.We are better prepared.
But what about Sparta - they certainly are not only better prepared than us, but they have made a progress in these preparations which can't be compared to ours.
MCC + CN + Fundy + Missile weapons is a combo for which it is very hard to prepare:
Supreme mobility, supreme morale, supreme weapons.

                            What else you expect?
It is only one thing that could be worse now(possibly not to us, as we're far enough that they'll anyway use naval transport) - Air Power and I expect Sparta is pretty close to it.

2.Rest of the game. Did anyone say they will let us/Morgan survive?
They already made Uni submissive. Hive is too much of a chunk for them now - I bet they are going for PKs now. After that they'll make a decision. Whether it's Hive's time next, or any of the human factions.

Sorry for my *absence* from the gaian forums...been busy and had just the time for Pbems...
About Sparta, after reviewing what's happened, I think that they will follow the warpath: an attack. Why not? It wouldnt affect them that much...
Anyway. I'll try to keep up with DG more often!

On a completely unrelated topic, I was just reading over the ACDGIII rules set. Have we been taking advantage of this one? "Stockpiling in Build Queues allowed at any time"
