It's only a couple of turns until both the scout and the spore launcher can get back to bases. If you're really that antsy, though, the scout patrol can head north.
Fallow Times can probably switch production to a CP without a penalty. I'm going to start a poll on production to try to sort this out.
As far as future colony pods, I say the pod from Gaia's Landing should go two tiles southwest and found a base there, using the adjacent monolith, and later some of the rainy terrain. The next CP after that should go near or in the Uranium Flats, perhaps on the original base #3 site.
