Maybe the option should be "Only SAM Choppers allowed, any reactor, attack any time" That way there'd always be a 50% ground attack penalty and a defender in a base would also get the intrinsic base defense of 25%, increased with AAA ability and Aerospace bonus.

Noodles (or missiles) would then be the preferred method of attacking bases from the air

Sadly, with the proposal to limit choppers to SAM only, changing what choppers are allowed to do post-fusion, etc, this poll seems to have become void. I think we may need to repoll this one, and include more options. I'll leave the next version to someone else though.

Yes, but post-fusion people should have AAA and Aerospace complexes, so the SAM limitation won't be needed. Choppers will die vs that combination.

But isn't that exactly the intent of our messing with Choppers? To make them extremely expensive to use agaisnt bases?

As it stands, they are the game's UberUnit. Building regular choppers for tankbusting/crawler rampaging, or empath ones for wormhunting (with SAM for locust eating) I've no problem with. It's when they get to attack a base seven or 8 times in one turn (and if nervegas equipped, each successful hit halves the base's population) that it gets ridiculous.

So then we have four options:

1. Choppers must be built with SAM til Fusion AND cannot attack bases at any point.
2. Choppers must be built with SAM til Fusion BUT can attack bases after fusion.
3. Choppers can be built with or without SAM, BUT cannot attack bases at any point.
4. Choppers can be built with or without SAM at any point and are unrestricted in their attacks.

Option 4 has already been shot down in polls, so that leaves 1, 2 or 3. 1 seems extremely harsh, penalising choppers twice. 2 or 3 both seem quite feasable. I'm leaning towards 3 at the moment.

Thoughts, comments? Have I missed an option?
