/me walks slowly down the line of cadets, eventually reaching Sergeant Jamski.

    /me sniffs.

If you're going to smoke those, Sergeant, wear a space-suit. I have no desire to damage my lungs any further by breathing in your smoke.

could even make battle report per unit if you want to...and the rest of the units will be controlled by high command
This is a neat idea. I am sure that the number-crunchers will have a fit, but I sure like it...not that I am a Spartan or anything....

Guard duty. What fun THAT would be. Of course most of the time you could slack off and visit the.... houses of questionable morals that follow soldiers around like stink on sh*t.

The commander of the garrison could always abuse their position and take control of the bases' construction queues and worker allocation patterns? I kinda like the sound of that!

Guard duty is the first line of defense for security of the State.

That's something that I don't mind at all.

Just make sure that any base that Frankychan is stationed at doesn't start mysteriously making Punishment Spheres.

                      • Well, when it came to war, we could go further than that - give members 'theatre commands' or command of army groups, under which they control all units in a certain area, or just a certain group of units, and they're given objectives by the High Command (e.g. 'take this base with minimum losses', 'drive back the invasion', etc), which they carry out as they see fit.

Of course, we would need to leave in a provision which would allow the supreme commander to overrule orders if they were really stupid, and when making big, intricate plans (e.g. a mass chop-and-drop that requires a series of abse captures in a certain order), unit commanders would have to give up a lot of independence.

Punishment Spheres? Shoot, you must be mistaken! Those are....Fun spheres, yeah that's it.

I've been thinking about our values...

Obviously we are a bit paradoxial, combining strict millitary discipline with a strong individual "free warrior" ethos. I'm imagining these communites in the Rockies that refuse to pay taxes, dress in combat fatuiges, drive jeeps and carry automatic weapons to the dinner table.

Kind of "No one tells me what to do... except the colonel... and the captain... but that's because I RESPECT them, not because the government tells me what to do!"
