I did not see anyone claim 2120-2130, so I played those turns - I hope no one minds. I'm a much better chess player than Alpha Centauri player. Chess is all about tactics and not at all about economics. You've got to attack.

So when I downloaded this and saw how close University Base was and how many high morale rovers we had running around, in addition to already having a transport to move units across the channel, I couldn't help myself. Anyway, isn't that what you're supposed to do with the Spartans? Probably stupid. Slowed colonization. Slowed exploration. Ah well.

I founded bases with the two colony pods and switched to planned (at the risk of ticking off Morgan and the Gaians) for the boost in production and started building a probe team and prototyping lasers on a rover at one of the two new bases. I moved the second citizen at Sparta Command from a rolling rainy tile to Mount Planet for the extra mineral and started moving the rovers back home.

Training camp built another colony pod while this was going on, rushed as soon as the pop expanded to two. Floated it down the river and founded a base on the square immediately behind the westernmost rover in the picture during the last turn of 2130. (two squares between the new base and Training Camp. Not good at explaining spatial relationships. Sorry about that )

During this time, the probe team had finished and was transported accross the narrow channel to University Base (which is roughly 5 or 6 tiles north of Sparta Command, though seperated by water) along with a Commando scout rover. The probe team landed next to University base and stole a tech (to get the AI to declare war without damaging our reputation). Unexpectedly, it was Industrial Automation. Bonus! Didn't even know they had that. So in this instance, going for Doctrine: Flexibility early worked like a charm. Good call Kataphraktoi!

The rover then landed and defeated a University unity rover and promoted to elite. Everything that could possibly have gone right that turn, did.

Two turns later I dropped off two more rovers (though I had not had time to upgrade either off them) and that was enough to take University Base. The first of the new batch, which was commando, beat a disciplined university rover. The second was lost but weakened the remaining defender, a scout patrol now deep in red (maybe 20%?), enough for the elite rover to defeat it and take the city that turn. It immediately met another university unit. They sued for peace and I accepted, then they proposed a treaty of friendship. Oddly enough, as I turn this over to everyone else at the end of turn 2130, they are Magnaminous despite having just lost their capital base!

Overall, I think that went better than could have been hoped. IA is an important tech and the captured base is close enough to be useful without specialists and has recycling tanks and a net node. Alright, on to Xian

Thank you to the creator of this game. It's a fantastic idea

      As I requested, the 30s to 40s

Should we discuss strategy in this thread or let each player make his/her own decisions?

Note: Ive never played as the spartans before.

if you want to stop terrorism; stop participating in it

''Oh,Commissar,if we could put the potatoes in one pile, they would reach the foot of God''.But,replied the commissar,''This is the Soviet Union. There is no God''.''Thats all right'' said the worker,''There are no potatoes''

why? the anyone can clearly see it by downloading and playing.

If it were up to me I think we should be silent about it and let our actions speak instead of words. Maybe afterwords discuss what was going on in each of your heads

            anyhow, next decade is up

I'm running Linux and only have a Windows based SMAC, but I enjoy reading the reports and looking at the screenshots.

You were supposed to do it within 24 h from declaration. Play it on and I'll be next if time allows (I'll let you know about it).

Note I don't know how to take screenshots with my old German laptop keyboard.

Since no ones responded why I played the turn. Here is a synopsis:

                        2140

-Opened the turn to find approximately 70EC's in the bank and Treatied with everyone.

                        - Looked over the terraforming options, and decided to leave them as is.

                        - Destroyed road leading to Uni Base, just in case the Uni's get the bright idea of sending a probe down it.

                        - Rush built a few things, and changed production to get some infrastructure going.

                        - Centauri Empathy in 2 turns!

                        - Renamed Mt Planet to something more interesting....

                        2141

                        - rush built probe at Training Camp, sent CP towards Training Camp

                        - initiated "Operation Infiltrate" by sending a probe towards Morgan.

                        2142

                        - Morgan calls up asking to trade Doc: Flex for Neural Grafting. Considering Doc: Flex is next to useless in this game, took the trade.

                        2143

                        - Get Cent Empathy. Select Eco Engineering. After balancing the Research bar I see we will be getting this tech in 51 years!

                        - Morgan infiltrated.

                        2144

                        Nothing to report

                        2145

                        - Running into a lot of NL's which I'm killing for EC's.

                        2146

                        - Nothing to report

                        2147

                        - Nothing to report

                        2148

                        - Rush built a few Formers. Continueing to build infrastructure.

                        2149

                        - Nothing to report.

My recomendation would be to build some CP's as well as build up Sparta Commands Mineral capability. Also infitrate the rest of the Factions.

                          State of the Spartans

                          Year: 2150
Rank on Power Graph: 5th, 1st is Morgan, 2nd are the UN Peacekeepers, 3rd are the Gaians, 4th is Yang, 6th is the University, and in 7th are the Believers.
                          Bases: 8
                          Population: 18
Techs: 20 (notable being Industrial Automation, Gene Splicing and Centauri Empathy. Techs in 36.
Military: 4 scout patrol, 3 unity rover, 2 scout rover, 3 synthmetal garrison, 1 recon rover.
                          Non-military units: 8 formers, 2 supply crawlers, 2 AAs, 1 Probe Team
                          Energy Banks: +11/turn, 113 total

I’m not familiar with whether the turns follow a rotation or not. I’m going to assume that they do not and play this turn, but if this is not how it’s supposed to be just let me know and I’ll delete the post and we’ll pretend it didn’t happen J

One other thing of note: Morgan is adjacent to us, has 8 bases and a total military force of 8 scout patrols. He's got the Weather Paradigm and will soon complete the PEG. Yes, this absolutely means I'm going to try attacking the guy roughly 2.5 times higher on the power graph

Turn 2150 Summary: contacted University, accepted offered pact of brotherhood. Contacted Yang, traded for ecological engineering and particle weapons. He offered pact of brotherhood in exchange for vendetta on Morgan. I accepted. Switched to Green (the Morganites are running FM/wealth, so Mindworms would be tough for them to deal with) and contacted the Gaians. They proposed a pact of brotherhood. I accepted. I got the commlink to Lal from them and contacted him. He sold Doctrine: Loyalty for 100 ec. I got loans from the Gaians and the PKs. Oddly, Yang does not have Doctrine: Loyalty. Contacted the Believers. Traded for the resonance armor tech. Agreed to yet another pact of brother hood. Cashed one of the two AAs in to complete a 4/2/2 prototype. Having declared vendetta on the Morganites, I’ve got to basically go all in before their industrial might pummels us. Looking rather good I think J

Turn 2151 Summary: Upgraded 4 rovers to impact weapons, started production on a few supply crawlers, sold several techs to Yang, switched to Police State (since many minerals were being lost to support). This switch also allowed a couple doctors to become workers. Our commerce income per turn is up to 20, which more than pays the debt I’ve incurred. We now have 5 rovers with impact weapons.

Turn 2152 Summary: not much to report
Turn 2153 Summary: not much else to report
Turn 2154 Summary: Killed a demon boil Fungal Tower with a scout patrol at 1 to 1 odds. Worth the gamble, since it gained 70 ECs and only risked a ten mineral scout patrol. Had to divert a rover to deal with a spore launcher picking at the terraforming.
Turn 2155 killed the spore launcher. Primary danger from Morgan at this point is his probe teams. He just built the PEG. Forces massing to take the first Morganite city.
Turn 2156 Took Morgan Anti-matter, which was defended only by a scout patrol. Placed two rovers in the same tile on the river leading the Morgan Anti-matter to prevent probe teams from getting through. Scrapped the captured Hab Complex because it was only size 2.
Turn 2157 not much to report
Turn 2158 Took Morgan Aerodynamics and Morgan Data Systems. Killed Morgan’s last probe team and he has no new ones building. Killed his lone Missile unit. Probed Intellectual Integrity.
Turn 2159 Took Morgan Entertainment which has the Weather Paradigm and the Planetary Energy Grid. Traded Intellectual Integrity to Zak for Synthetic Fossil Fuels. Research switches to Air Power to complete next year.

State of Sparta, beginning of 2160
Rank on Power Graph: Second, slightly behind Lal.
                            Bases: 13
                            Population: 34
Techs: 25, Mind Machine Interface in 28 turns
Military: 6 impact speeders, 6 police infantry, 3 synthmetal garrison, 1 impact rover, 1 scout patrol
                            Non-Military: 11 formers, 8 supply crawlers, 1 AA, 2 probe teams, 1 transport foil
Energy Banks: 732, +38 per turn

                            On to the next player
