not that weak, perhaps if you distribute the pointy sticks across the size of the empire, then yes.

by the way, I won that game - because the AI razed one of my cities. if that doesn't make sense, consider that this was the NW scenario and I could capture the treasure from my own city to win the game

I started a new game to more closely monitor the diplomacy. Everything going fine good friends with everyone. I changed my mind about declaring war on someone and was denounced. Next turn all my friends denounced me and declared war. This makes no sense. Sure the guy I pissed off does, but the rest don't that is my point in saying the diplomacy is unplayable.

As to capturing cities, try to capture a city surrounded by water and mountains giving you 1 maybe 2 hexes to attack from and give that city an artillery piece. It is impossible to capture this city.

Furthermore, I have never gotten a research agreement to fruition. This last one got to three turns befoe it would have happened and the AI declared war for no reason. He could have waited three turns, not screwed himself then declared war. That would have made more sense.

This is very odd to read. I have never had the AI declare war while a research pact was active. It's like we are playing different games! So far in my current marathon one no one has was dec'd me at all TBH.

The research agreement denied has only happened to me since the latest upgrade. I spend the money and get nothing. Whereas the AIs have them come to completion all the time. I just dropped down to King and started a game there, hopefully, the game will be playable at that level.

It just did it again, started new game, was friendly with everyone, killed 1 CS (that another CS wanted dead) and now everyone denounces me and declares war. I repeat this game is now unplayable - please someone tell me that Faraxis may think about fixing this.

Thanks Zoe, you made my day.

Let me also say that the AI that started the denouncement was friendly enough to have a defensive pact with me.

The denouncing really does seem to have a snowball effect to it, doesn't it? One denounces you for whatever reason, and then the others, and it goes around and pisses everyone off. Now you can't trade with anyone, they all dislike you...

                      Meh.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

I don't think it's strategically interesting to denounce actively. What it *is* useful for however, is if you notice that someone that you want to befriend denounced someone you don't care about. Then you can denounce the same player, for a bonus. It's opportunistic, but hey.

It gets even worse. Started a new game and was given Gandhi. Though ok, no warmongering and I'll kiss the AIs ass and not get denounced. I didn't give in to money extortion and was denounced, so I went back to an autosave and paid all exthortion requests from my 'friend'. About 150 turns into the game, one of my 'friends' denounced me because I was doing too well in the game. Thus, all my other 'friends' jumped on the bandwagon and now I have to be a warmonger. Good thing I built troops despite going for the hippie win.

Have I mentioned how stupid I think this diplomacy is?

I really wish you'd stop beating around the bush and tell us what you think of diplomacy.

All right, good point, I'll stop whining, but the diplomacy is still stupid

Yeah, first everyone was complaining how we never knew what the AI's attitude towards us was. Post patch, everyone is complaining how they get that attitude.
If we want total transparency with our politicians, perhaps we shouldn't complain so much when we get it.

I wonder if pre-patch they would have the same attitude. Naw, they probably changed too many of the mechanics for that.
