Would this person's 1st name be Babel and last name fish?

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

I wasn't aware Babelfish was born and raised in Iraq. No, this is a real person who came to America after the start of the Iraq War.

I have confirmation from a native Arabic speaker born and raised in Iraq. It is Arabic and it translates to:

"Regards! I am Ramesses the God. I am a live representation of Egypt, the mother and father of all civilizations"

            She also translated Harun al-Rashid's:

"Hello, Persian, I am Harun al-Rashid, I am the successor of the Arabs, come to me and tell me about your empire"

Kind of weird that he says Hello, Persian but presumably the player controlled civ would be Persia in that video.
Successor of the Arabs? He says he's the Caliph of the Arabs

              خليفة
              Khlyfh

              Which translates to 'successor'

Actually, she was right. Khalif's were successors to Muhammad.

caliph, calif, kalif, khalif [ˈkeɪlɪf ˈkæl-]
              n
(Non-Christian Religions / Islam) Islam the title of the successors of Mohammed as rulers of the Islamic world, later assumed by the Sultans of Turkey
[from Old French, from Arabic khalīfa successor]

Oh, great. Not only doesn't Catherine II look like herself, but she's going to talk to me in stitch-splitting awkward Russian too?

No, but I know Firaxis isn't going to hire a historian and come up with some 18th century Russian. They'll just hire a mail-order wife of one of the programmers.

She seemed like such a nice girl too.

Theres plenty of written, oral and active history of 18th century Russian, on account of Russia being both a modern and civilised country. Im sure with a modicum of effort 18th century Russian can be well represented. Im looking forward to your opinion when the time comes.

You really think 18th century Russian is going to be represented in Civ5?

Want to make a gentleman's wager?

It'll be modern Russian for sure. It might be fluent though, but it'll be modern.

By the way, Elizabeth sounds how I would've expected Elizabeth to sound... like a snotty nasally English *****. God that voice is annoying.

I think the reason is commercial, if you want to sell this game in Egypt, let Ramesses speak Arabic, if you made him speak Coptic, which is the most accurate available option, it could offend the arabic majority of Egyptians, because it would imply that the coptic christian minority is more related to ancient egyptians than arab egyptians.

Do the Arab Egyptians claim ancestry from the Ancient Egyptians? I'm not aware that they do, so that wouldn't be an issue, as far as I know. What would be an issue is that Coptic Christianity, despite Egypt's supposed religious tolerance, is a bit oppressed.

Shouldn't she speak Russian with a German accent?
