    Drake,
Just before I hit the submit button to post my reply to your post in the Community forum, Markos must've hit the 'close thead' button But since I spent the time writing the reply already I'll just be a naugthy boy and post it here instead

    ===

Though I sympathize with your cause, I can only say: "C'est la vie..."

Ming has said it often enough already: the Civ-Mac forum is for Civ discussions, not for Mac discussions. The lack of Mac-related Civ news saddens me as well, but if that's means the Civ-Mac forum dries up, then so be it. It has happened to plenty of other forums in the past and it will happen to other forums in the future. The gaming industry evolves and Apolyton merely evolves with it. Sometimes there is eventually a revival, in which case discussion starts up again. Example: at their zenith (around the release of CtP2), there were a total of 14 active CtP-related forums, at their lowpoint (about a year later) there were only 5 mostly inactive ones. Currently there are 9 fairly active forums with 1 more on it's way (once the source for CtP2 is released) and an option for yet another one.

The same applies to Civ-Mac. If there is no news for a few months, then the forums will dry up, as sad as that may be. If/when more news and interesting developments take place again in the future, the forums will revive; this has been proven time and again in the past. I can't speak for the site's administration, but I think it's safe to say that Civ Mac-gaming will always have a place on Apolyton (just as Civ1, Civ Boardgame and Alt Civs always have, even in their darkest hours), but it will be with ups and down, just like the Civ Mac game industry. In fact, *exactly* like the Civ Mac game industry.

And I'm pretty sure there will be plenty to talk about in the future: Paradox Games (also covered by Apolyton) AFAIK ports all their games to Mac, I think I heard about a MoO3 port to Mac, with the release of CtP2's source code this opens the possibilities of a Mac port and I'm sure that at some point the Civ-line of games (whether it's PtW/C3C or Civ4) will also return to the Mac. So the forum may have reached a dry spot now, but I'm sure it'll be okay in the future.

As for threads that are of interest to the community, I can understand that and a certain amount of that takes place in every forum. Most DG forums have a bar/cafe thread of some sort for off-topic discussions, most General forums (Civ2, Civ3, CtP1, CtP2, SMAC, RoN, etc) have seen plenty of off-topic threads on real history, piracy, general tech discussions, 'what system are you playing on', community news/projects like SETI@Home, Apolyton Meetings, death/birth/marriage/etc of members, etc. Most Creation forums contain plenty of general discussions on how to use Photoshop, what the best editing programs are, programming languages, making movies, etc -- topics that strictly speaking don't belong there either. This is normal and tolerated all over Apolyton.

However, it's usually only a very small percentage of all threads that are like this, the vast majority of discussion is on-topic. This is where it goes wrong for the Mac forum: at present, almost all discussion is off-topic here. A certain amount of off-topic discussion has always existed and been tolerated in the Mac forums and will no doubt continue to exist and be tolerated in the future (though starting such a thread right NOW is probably not a very good idea ), but in the past months it had just gotten completely out of hand.

I really hurts me to see the Civ-Mac forum dry up as well, but if there's (temporarily) just nothing to talk about, there's no point in faking it either...

I'm sorry if my postings have contributed as spam. All I have to say is I dont object if someone feels the need to reduce my PC and I didnt think it was spam.
Generally I'm with the mac guys in this. The OT mac threads were mainly crippled by Ashers comments and all the flaming that it created. At the same time I understand that Ming had to do what Ming has to i.e. Ashers publicity stunt left him with no option but to take action.

What I hope is that Ashers nasty behaviour and vendetta against anyone not agreeing with him wont further ruin the mac threads on the OT if there is to be any.

As you might have noticed my english is far from good but Ashers behaviour during some moths now is what comes up in my mind when I seach my dictionary for vendetta. I know I'm not the right person to say this, but its a little sad, because I think he could do better as we all of course could.

PS(didnt want to make a new post).
One more thing, I think we are approaching the fundamentals of internet BBS'. At least for me, theres only few forums in the Internet I have the time and energy to read and reply to. So there are some places where I feel as home. Apolyton is one of them, maybe the only real one. I dont think I'm the only one in Apo.

It's not very userfriendly if every topic has their own forum e.g. if I want to talk about music I go to www.platinum.ac etc. Forums shouldnt be too specialised nor too general. OT is way too general mayhem, unpopular threads sink in it like jimmy hoffa into...erm well where ever he was thrown to. So I wouldnt mind if the rules would ease of a little, after all computer talk in computer games forum doesnt sound too of topic to me.

I really can't be bothered listening to any more of this ****.

That fact is that a moderator colluded in a particular poster's vendetta against other posters when that poster himself was the main problem. Whether or not the other posters deserved to be told off is besides the point, as no punishment was handed out to someone whose agenda was simple malice against other posters. Instead that bad behaviour has been rewarded and Asher is running around crowing about it.

Ming can invent any excuse he likes, but the fact is he rewarded malicious behaviour directed against other posters when other options were available.

That strikes me as extremely poor moderation and, for that reason, I can't be bothered participating in Apolyton any more - if total ****ers are to be allowed to run amok, what's the point. So bye to the good people, but not to mental Canadian homos with ugly boyfriends.

Ming, if I may humbly request that the Virtual PC 6 thread be reopened, I'm soon hopefully going to be testing some Civ games in that emulator (namely CivIII and PTW) to see how well they run on my machine and make a recommendation accordingly to the Mac Civ Gaming community.

Do you have a suggestion as to where the future post (once the loan of the disks and testing is completed) may best go?

            IMHO it'd fit here: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...27#post2430527

but at this point it looks like I'm in need of your input.

I can understand that since your point of view has no logic to support it

That fact is that a moderator colluded in a particular poster's vendetta against other posters when that poster himself was the main problem.
You seem to forget the simple fact that the MAIN problem is you guys abusing this forum and breaking the rules. And your comment that I colluded with Asher simply has no basis in fact. He pointed out a BIG RULES INFRACTION... and as always, a mod responded. Sorry to break up your little party, but guess what... against the rules of this site.

Whether or not the other posters deserved to be told off is besides the point, as no punishment was handed out to someone whose agenda was simple malice against other posters. Instead that bad behaviour has been rewarded and Asher is running around crowing about it.
Uhhhh... be happy no punishments were handed out to the actual rules breakers... you guys. Asher only reported it... which is within the rules of this site. As I've stated before, I don't care about Ashers intentions.. But I do care about the major rules violations that have been occuring here.

Ming can invent any excuse he likes, but the fact is he rewarded malicious behaviour directed against other posters when other options were available.
You seem to be the one inventing things here. I'm enforcing the rules of this site... which is my job, and I make no excuses about it. You can not claim in any fashion that you guys weren't breaking the rules.

That strikes me as extremely poor moderation and, for that reason,
And that's why you aren't a mod.... because you seem to have no clue what a moderators function is here... which is to enforce the rules as laid down by the OWNERS of this private site... You seem to think you deserve special rights.... guess what, you don't.

I can't be bothered participating in Apolyton any more - if total ****ers are to be allowed to run amok, what's the point. So bye to the good people, but not to mental Canadian homos with ugly boyfriends.
Yep... take you ball and go home...

But if you stay and post again anything like what you closed your last post with... you will be restricted.

Ok... I'll open it again... but please keep the discussion oriented to how it effects games, and not just a general technology/mac discussion.

                  /me nods.

                  Many thanks.

Are emulated system specs compared to required system specs of games and estimations of if said games will work in VPC 6 or not kosher?

Wow, this is an interesting thread. Not trying to promote another site over Apolyton, but the mac community here can get their needs met through the mac forum at Civfanatics.

Feel free to post at Civfanatics... it's a good site.

At Apolyton, the Owners have decided not to have specific tech forums... That is their right as Owners of this private site.

Do, however, be warned that Civfanatics has much stricter rules regarding flaming and trolling and spitting at moderators, and that much of what has be posted here recently would have resulted in restrictions, and perhaps even one perma-ban.

And know that I will be paying *special* attention to the Mac forums, now.
