  • new wonder ideas thread

    Hello
I have never seen a thread for new wonder ideas. I hope to start one.

Beethoven's Ninth Symphony-Should be a great wonder, but it would be stupid for another civ to capture it, so it should be a small wonder. It should increase culture a lot and some happiness. I'm thinking it could be available after Music Theory, but then again it was written in 1827 (should be in the industrial age). I think Music Theory is researched in the medievil ages (I never research it and I forgot).

Stonehenge-Recently, some scientists have said it was built almost 10,000 years ago. Maybe it would have no prerequisite (or one of the techs England starts out with, though I forgot what those were too). It should be a great wonder, though I'll need input on this one.

Sears Tower (maybe not this one)-increases commerce.

Erie Canal-I don't know what could be done for this one. Maybe added ship movement or something.

Please give me suggestions on what you guys think of these wonders, and add some ideas of some more.

"The first man who, having fenced off a plot of land, thought of saying, 'This is mine' and found people simple enough to believe him was the real founder of civil society. How many crimes, wars, murders, how many miseries and horrors might the human race had been spared by the one who, upon pulling up the stakes or filling in the ditch, had shouted to his fellow men: 'Beware of listening to this imposter; you are lost if you forget the fruits of the earth belong to all and that the earth belongs to no one." - Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Do you want suggestions on Wonders that really can be created with the Editor, or wild ideas for Civ 4?

    Here are some realistic suggestions.

Circus Maximus (Construction) - makes 6 people content in that city.
Olympic Games (Nationalism) - doubles effect of Colosseums
Alfred Nobel's Foundation (Refining) - same effect as Great Library
Autobahn (Motorized, Oil, Rubber) - increases commerce, but also pollution
The difference between industrial society and information society:
In an industrial society you take a shower when you have come home from work.
In an information society you take a shower before leaving for work.

Maybe this should be a small wonder.

      My Suggestions:
The Eternal City - +4 Happy people, allows city size 3, available with masonry.
During Ancient Times there ought to be the possibility of creating a huge city like Rome with all the consequences there of. (can you image keeping a big city happy in Ancient Times!)

I mean with the editor, not for civ4. I never have made a wonder, so with each suggestion could you also write how to do it? Oh, and I love the olmypic games idea. I have been trying to think of a way to put the olmpyics or the world cup into the game. I was thinking whoever hosted it would have big happiness bonuses. But I couldn't figure out a way besides a wonder, but I think that's a great idea.

If Elephants are made a strategic resource, and War Elephants will be available to every civ with Elephants, one could have some animal-based Wonders.

National Zoo (Medicine, Elephants & Horses connected) - science bonus, less pollution (because of environmental awareness)
Tropical National Park (Ecology, Elephants within city radius) - similar bonuses
The difference between industrial society and information society:
In an industrial society you take a shower when you have come home from work.
In an information society you take a shower before leaving for work.

So far, every wonder suggested is possible with the editor.

              New Suggestion:

The War Cabinet (Steel) - enormous bombardment defense.

Taj Mahal - similar to Oracle
"The world is too small in Vorarlberg". Austrian ex-vice-chancellor Hubert Gorbach in a letter to Alistar [sic] Darling, looking for a job...
"Let me break this down for you, fresh from algebra II. A 95% chance to win 5 times means a (95*5) chance to win = 475% chance to win." Wiglaf, Court jester or hayseed, you judge.

Thanks, I just got tired of EVERY city topping off at 12. Rome was far bigger than other cities of fits time, and the Senate had to work at keeping the people happy. You really need a lot of luxuries and a marketplace though.........

AI goes for it also, I usually build it less than 1 out of 15 times I play because the AI beats me to it! Whoever builds it tends to dominate fairly well.

Maybe it could be a small wonder.

Over all, I would like more wonders to have an effect just to the city. However, the effects must then be strong enough to pay off. Shakespeare's, for instance is a bit too weak.

Technically, you could give the Palace the same attributes as a hospital and whichever city was your capital would be allowed to grow past 12.

Hmmm. That means when you take someone' s capital it will be stuck at that size(or lower) until you build a hospital, but the enemies new capital will be able to grow over 12. I may try this and see how it works..........

Once, I gave all 7 Ancient Wonders the hospital ability, but once an AI built a wonder, that city tended to have an unfair advantage and built most of the other seven. Usually ended up with 3-4 separate super cities. And they were almost never the capitals.

Another idea, which I've mentioned several times:

With Monotheism, a strategic resource called Shrine will become visible. This resource can then allow advanced religious buildings.

The Sacred City is a small wonder that can only be built if there is a Shrine in the city radius. The Sacred City gives a great happiness and culture bonus.

That's a good one. I'm going to use that for my MedievalFantasy mod..........

                              Great, GhengisFarb!

I also think that the Hanging Gardens should be removed, since it did not actually exist.
