yeah, upgrading longbowmen was a must, especially since the Babylonians with their special unit being a bowman in one game had 197 longbowmen well into the modern era!!

Longbowmen were up against my tanks, mech infantry, modern infantry (highly recommended by the way) and artillery.

wondering whether it'd be worth doing anything with the swordsman/immortal/legionary? Say allowing them to upgrade to marines for instance?!

As far as the lethal bombardment issues, the next changes will be as follows...

    Lethal land/sea
    Jet fighters
    F15s
    Stealth fighters
Possibly radar artillery (really not sure on this unit!?!?)

    Lethal sea
Bombers (they'll be toned back to their original values of 8,0,3)
    Stealth bombers (10,0,3)
    Fighters

    Lethal land
    Battleships
    AEGIS cruisers

    What do you reckon...?

    Cheers

Some very good ideas. I esp. like how you manage the spaceship. I like the bit about musketeers, but I'm still not sure to boost them : they're not THAT useless in normal game, plus the French are quite powerful as such, being commercial / industrious.

Version 1.3 of the Real Deal is here!

Some major changes have implemented for an improved gaming experience...

See first post for details and remember to download the attached Tomahawk missile.zip on this post and, if you haven't done so already, the modern infantry.zip further up...

Installation instructions can be found on the first post and in the Readme included in the real_deal.zip

Enjoy and any feedback would be appreciated.

version 1.4 is on its way... if testing works out well, we'll see a new SAM other than the awful SAM site!

This will help compensate for the introduction of the offensive tag to aircraft which means they do less air superiority, and give another method for shooting dem buggers down!

            the idea is this:

I was just thinking over a better way to employ SAM defence other than the useless SAM site.... After much mulling and pondering i eventually came up with this idea..

            -Copy cruise missile unit
-Select Land unit since if Air is selected the cruise missile strategy can't be selected.
-Select cruise missile so it will be destroyed when it attacks.
-Select air superiority and re-base missions.
-Give it an operational range of 2-3 (city radius)
-Select immobile (apparently this has to be done to force AI to use air missions). Although i am toying with the idea that i wouldn't need to...depends on AI and whether it would indeed work?! If it did then the carrier could have these loaded on it too.
-Don't select bombard or give it bombard stats.
-Give it an attack value of say 8-10.
-Give it -1 hp since it is only a missile?!
-Make it cost 50 shields say?!

            Reckon it'll work?

I haven't tested this, but i see no reason why this shouldn't work. I already have a longer range Tomahawk missile included in my Mod (see above), which has many of the same abilities as the new SAM but is an offensive weapon and so also has:

-No attack value but bombard stats (8,8,4; half strength cruise but double my cruise range).
            -Bombard selected.
-Has Precision Bombing and Re-base selected.
            -No operation range.

This makes a great alternative missile to the cruise and the AI uses it to great effect!!

It doesn't load onto ships or the carrier, which it what i wanted, but the re-base gives it great variance over the cruise which does load onto ships. MAin difference being the cruise isn't immobile.

Anyone any suggestions for improvements before i release v2.0, which will probably be my last update as i'm nearing a very playable and enjoyable mod now.

In 2.0 the main attraction will be an Internet Wonder, which basically works like a modern age Theory of Evolution for the lucky bugger that gets there first. The other option is to make it so it gives a research lab in every city on the continent. However, the late game tedium leans me towards the first idea being the better one.

Furthermore, there will also be the Interceptor SAM, which will act as a defence against bombers/jet fighters within the city's worker radius (2 squares). This missile will basically be a better, more appropriate option than the garbage SAM site which only use is currently for the SDI defence small wonder.

Doesn't 'AI to AI trade rate' means that how much an AI civ wants from another AI civ for something?
From the helpfile it seems so.

So i think the default value of 130 for regent level means let's say the AI civ has writing tech which worths 100 gold and that civ would give this tech to another AI civ for 130 gold (30 revenue).
So i think setting this rate to 100 means AI civs would trade valuables among each other without revenue which is not good.

                Am i wrong?

Looks great - gotta try it when I can get my Civ 3 copy back.

Nice colour setup, but I would prefer to have the Romans purple (like the consuls' togas were).

Do the increased movement rates for sea and oceans work? In that case I would have doubled the coastal movement instead. Navigating a large ship at the coast is difficult because of the shallows and currents. As written the Ironclad was made for coastal waters, but throughout naval history there has been a difference between coastal and high-seas warships.

Why is the movement of 3 for the Cavalry ridiculous?
The difference between industrial society and information society:
In an industrial society you take a shower when you have come home from work.
In an information society you take a shower before leaving for work.

Optimizer, this is only verison 1.3. Currently i'm play testing version 2.1 with the hope of getting that up and on this site later this week. It's taking quite a while to get it fully stable and compatible with 1.29f!

In it there has been some major changes. Too many to shortlist here for the moment. Here's a taster:

                    New Internet Wonder
                    New Artificial Intelligence Wonder
                    New Shipyard Small Wonder
                    Buildable Ironworks
Streamlined tech tree progression (slightly slowed ancient and middle ages, quickened modern age slightly)
New Kayak unit (canoe for expansionist civs)
Longbowman UU for English, Man-O-War expansionist specific
                    Improved naval side of things
Improved explorative aspect of civ3. Map trading and communications trading pushed back in the tech tree.

Version 2.0 has arrived, which has some interesting updates and is compatible with 1.29f!!

Check out the first post in this thread for details, which is copied from the readme file.

Once you've downloaded the real deal mod, download the 4 extra units from the previous three posts and the one below:
                            Crossbowman
                            Canoe
                            Kayak
                            Tomahawk missile

Make sure you follow the instructions for getting the Outlaw, Marine and Modern Infantry correct in the Civilisation\Art\Units folder.

Also make sure you follow the instructions for getting the rest of the real_deal.zip into the correct places. I have tried to make this as simple as possible.

Enjoy, and remember to give some feedback...

                            Thanks
