Great work. I cant wait to see it all.

I'm still against the whole idea of founding a city near an area that floods, dunno why they incorporated that into the game. I suppose it just similates especially fertile land.
There are lots of cities worlwide that were founded on or have grown to include flood plains. Many or most cities on the Mississippi are on flood plains. I think that almost any city founded on a large river on flat land would be on a flood plain.
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

My understanding on the situation isn't very broad, but I am against the founding of a city on a flood plain because everyone else in the state is financing the costs of rebuilding that area after a flood (be it through increased insurance rates or through taxes).

About the buildings, are you planning on doing Wonders too (a few important ones, like the Pyramids or Bach's cathedral)?

FLOOD PLAIN (from an Internet search):
A flood plain is the lowland adjacent to a river, creek, lake, stream, ocean or other open waterway that is subject to flooding when there is a significant rain.
So I don't think that there is any specific look for it. Maybe half-land half-water, like a swamp, but not as gloomy. I guess you'll just have to use your great imagination.
I was going to post a few pics, but that wouldn't help, because it's just normal land when it's dry, and turns to a lake when it rains...

I was wondering about that too and I researched the issue. The city graphics, take rAMER.pcx for example, are divided into 12 rectangles of 167width by 95height. If you have grid line enabled, they will overlap the city, and any resources in neighboring diamonds can also overlap the city. So if you want to create your own city fit it into 167x95 and then paste it into the appropriate pcx.

maybe make it green like grassland but have tall grass on it or something tall and weedlike. We have flood plains near where I used to live (the valley where all the cows are) and it is usually full of tall grass (where the cows aren't). I think it appropriate that floodplains, found near rivers, are green. That way the land very close to the river is fertile and shows it.

the above cities do fit, it took me a few trial and errors to get the right sizes.

I cannot put wonders into cities because it would look strange if everyone had hanging gardens, when only one person has actually built it.

I have a few thoughts on flood plains, so I will have a go today.

Do you have an ETA on when you will be done with this graphic mod? It looks interesting, and I am using some of your other stuff right now.

It has always seemed odd that floodplain tiles are always adjacent to desert tiles (if I'm not mistaken). Maybe the existing graphics are appropriate, but do not make the floodplain part of the transition between the river and desert distinct enough. What about just broadening that narrow green strip along the edge, perhaps with a few minor streams leading toward the river?

Regarding the issue of founding cities on floodplains, the game designers evidently shared the reservations expressed here, and they punish those cities by a higher rate of disease and death from the swampy conditions.

Sn00py - The cities look unbelievable, but still a little clusterd. You should keep them with your improvements, shrink them to 75%, and use the remaining amount of room to soften the cities relation to the terrain with a slowly diminishing grid pattern.

                      Cheers

Can you make some black sand coastline sn00py? That might be sweet dunno how you would fit it with the various terrains.
