I'm sorry but the resources show up fine on the editor-generated maps but don't show up on the in-game random maps!!

They are actually there, it's just that they don't show.

Are you editing the pediaIcons.txt file to point to the correct icon graphic too? The hard part about modding for me is all the "little stuff" that has to be done too before it will load and work correctly, namely Civilopedia.txt and pediaIcons.txt.
Flogging will continue until morale improves.

does that make a difference though, i thought that was solely for the civilopedia and had no relation to whether they showed up on the game-created map or not?!

I thought the map icons were determined by the resources.pcx file?

you see, the problem is that they'll show up in the editor generated maps, but not in game generated maps... and i've no idea as to why?

Me the luxury resources display correctly in editor and random generated map into game.

I don't understand how you get this bug...

hmm, i've discovered that you can't have more than 6x6 resources on the resources.pcx that show up in game generated random maps.

anything selected in the 6x6 is fine and will show up no bother.

uhmm it´s just me or the luxury resources are limited to those that came with the game? whenever i build a road, that it´s connected to the capital, i see the advisor telling me the usual stufff about happines and when i close the pop up the game crashes.

Got a similary problem: at first it seemed to work, everything showed up on the map, civilopedia worked too. (I've only edited the civilopedia.txt with the multitool).

The first extra-luxury was implemented. Inside the city without an icon, but who cares? After all it provided happiness. This seemed broken, because it provided happines without a marketplace too, but anyway.

But then later in the game cotton was available and this causes the game to crash everytime I want to go inside a city. Thats a bit nasty because that means no more founding of new cities and no conquering neither.

at least if the new city were conected to a road.

However it doesn't seem to work with more than one extra luxury. Any workarounds? Am I doing something wrong?

                  Update:

Don't know if it is this luxury-problem or what's the matter. I reduced the luxury amount back to eight. I had 3 more bonus resources and 5 more strategic resources.

Now I restarted and had one problem with incense. (It requires Mysticism in my mod). I traded Mysticism from the AI and after that, I found some incense. But after conecting it with a road, it did not show up in my resources list. Neither in the city screen, nor in the F2-screen.

Okey. Restarted. I played without any problems, incense worked fine this time, but then I see my tundra citys keep growing big. Very big. And there's only tundra...? After clicking around I see a seagull (another bonus resource I've added thanks to monstermans list). So It was there, but I couldn't see it. Strange, but easy.

But then... - after developing invention, which would have activated hemp, I couldn't look up my city screen anymore, it crashed everytime I tried, in every city I have. Or had.

                  Damn.

Now I wonder what's the problem. Is there something with Invention or is there something with the pic of hemp (but it's a bonus resource, so it shouldn't cause problems!) Or is there a limit in the civ3.exe that you only can use 2 "invisible" resources..?

Well I have to restart anyway, and now I'll try some other resource sheets, 60 resources won't work.

The invisible resources problem was solved in 1.21, i don´t have any problems with them showing up in map and Trade screen (I didn´t look in the city screen).
                    1 Strategic and 5 Bonus= it works
                    Same plus 1 Luxury= crash

Note: 1 of my Bonus resources appear with Sanitation and it works without any problems.

I didn´t do any tests since I don´t have the time I just thought that maybe I did something wrong... well until next patch then

Just curious... what did you add for Strategic? I tried to come up with something original but I only added timber.

I've got 1.21 and it's no problem as long as you haven't got more than 36 resources. All resources after No. 36 wont show up IN THE GAME. They do show up in the editor though.

So now I'm angry: I revamped everything back to 36 resources (at least I have now found out how to cut and past in this MS Photo Editor). I played. I discovered Monarchy which would have given me perfume. Well it did and it crashed.

Okey now I was looking into this luxuriessmall.pxc in the cityscreen folder. There were only the good old resources from the original. So I thought maybe the point is to only use 8 luxuries and to only use slots 7-14 for luxuries. I've done it (including editor editing etc.) and... tata!!

Crash. Again with perfume when I want to go inside the city screen, but I just don't get it. WHY???? Is this Civ3.exe completely stupid or what? I mean I've put only eight resources in, they are at exactly the same position as the old ones, I've did nothing to the luxuriessmall.pcx and it crashes! Whats up? The names, or what?

It seems as for LUXURIES there are 8 luxuries possible, and they are the ones which came with the original. That suxxs!

                      __________

My plus strategic resources so far are:
                      - Spice (You know: from Dune. Needed for Longevity and CureforCancer)
                      - Timberwood *g*
                      - Dye (For Leonardo, Michelangelo, Shakespeare) [instead of a luxury]
                      - Jedi (Needed for Jedi College (instead of Newton's College) only 1-2 per map)

...well and number five was a lie

Oh and by the way, I made a link to the pediaicons.txt and I put a small pic of it to the art/cilivopedia/icon folder.

I appears in Civilopedia (who had that thought) but as always a problem with the city screen.

If somebody knows a solution I would be very happy.

About the Strategic... I like the Dye idea, I think I will implement it in my next game, thanks!

                              FINALLY! I FOUND IT OUT!

Okey you can only use EIGHT luxuries.

If you change a luxury DO NOT use the copy tool!!!

The copy tool is ONLY for bonus and strategic resources!

That means you have to RENAMEthe luxuries, that you want to change, because the luxuries must always be on the 9-16th position of the editor (civedit.exe). This is most important!

And also at the 9-16th position of the resources.pcx - that means you have to cut and paste your luxury on the exact same position of the resources.pcx as the one you kicked out.

You have to make new pedia icons. not sure if this is really nescessary, but it's surely better to have them, makes it more stable. This needs time!

And at last you can if you want edit the luxuryicons_small.pcx in the city screen folder, so that your resource will have the right pic in the city screen. hm, whereelse

It's sad, that you only can use eight resources, thats another «design descision»™ which is most questionable. But that we know already so i stop flaming. Even if they deserve it.

So if it comes to luxuries: No more than eight. Never. Don't work. If somebody knows otherwise: TELL US (please)!

playing with patch1.17f i added coffee. even if i didn't see it on the map i was able to trade it from other civs and get it if it was connected by road. it appeared in the city screen, an had the happy bonus.
so there worked 9 luxury ressources in 1.17 patch. now 1.21 patch. happy to see coffee is visible, but game crash when connected. so something changed from patch 117 to 121 with the city screen.
do we have to wait for the next patch for an solution ? or is there an easier way to get it to work ?
