Thanx for the .zip version to download Mark, this is a lot easier than having to mess around with attachment thingies.

Finished the 5th tourney game with a 1 point retirement win but have overwritten the aurtosave so can't submit it. It was only a measly 1600 points or so anyway...got bogged down chasing the Persians instead of expanding.

Looking forward to this one. Less corruption...whoopee

Tried this one with just one city, adding 10 wonders (Colossus, Great Library, Sistine Chapel, Copernicus's Observatory, Shakespeare's Theater, Newton's University, Universal Suffrage, Theory of Evolution, United Nations and SETI Program) for a cultural win in 1968. After adding Apollo and Intelligence Agency, my city was making 93 culture/turn at the very end.

With so many civs, I expected research to move quickly, but not so on Monarch level. One city could not move fast enough along the research tree to keep Delhi always busy with building wonders.

(Edited to use tournament naming convention. Hopefully the attached file will change to solo.zip. Nope, I goofed it up, will add zip file in a new post.)

I'm also new to zip files. I have not been able to get either one of the download links to work. The icons appear on my desk top but when I open i get an error not valid civIII scenario file both ways. I have tried uninstalling the game moving the file into the save and scenarios folders even downloading multiple times from both links, same error when trying to open. I swear even time I come to this forum I feel like all of my remaining hair should be gray. too young to be old, too old and out of the loop to be tech savy help!!!!!

If you have Windows operating system then download WinZip 8.1 from http://www.winzip.com/ to handle zip files properly.

Install WinZip before trying to open the file.

When you save the "attachment" that you download here, rename it to something.zip before saving it to your hard drive.

Then just double-click it and it should open and ask you where you want to extract it: extract it to your civilization3 savegame folder.

And be sure to download & install Civ3 v1.16f patch before trying to play the game.

Koro did you try the alternate download link?
The problem NOT with download or unzip but with SAV file itself:
It crashes civ3 software during load game process!

Both download locations bring same copy of SAV file.

P.S. I have no any problems with loading previous SAV files from your site: tournaments up to 5th and submitted victory games are still loadable. But submitted victory game for 6th tournament is not loadable - it crashes software too.
Reinstall of the game and patch does not help.

I think it is question to tournament game-makers: what was changed between 5th and 6th game map make?

Thanx for suggestions, tried all that still having civ3edit say its not a valid scenario takes me to the editor screen and its all ocean. do I have to disable something in the game first to run this stuff?

What if we haven't started Tournament 6 yet? Should we wait to install the patch until after we have completed the tournament?

                        I'm getting better

Well tournament 5 got my first city eaten, at least this time I stayed alive and retired voluntarily!

Retired when I was just about to finish the second age and got a message someone was starting Universal Suffrage.

Won't give anything away about the map except to say it's a B*TCH.

Crap Map! You spawn on a tiny island with no resources and share it with the Germans. I build about 10 archers and send to Berlin and what happens? They all get killed by 2 spearmen. Then Germany send 2 archers at my closest city and what happens? They kill my 2 spearmen and 1 archer (I didn't counterattack as they stood on a mountain). Then they took Delhi (which had only 1 defender) and the game was not worth playing any more.

Well, at least I am now free to download the patch and play some games on maps I like. Or play some multiplayer Brood War or Counter-Strike, as I finally got my ADSL connection yesterday.

Olaf: I feel your pain! And here I thought it was bad when my five vet archers lost to two regular spearmen! (One killed, one now elite). I've not seen many runs of luck that bad, but still not anywhere near your problem, losing ten (10!) and then being run over, too.

But I'm out of this one. I would have tried to play through the setback, but not with the patch arriving (downloading it right now). So I sucked it up and quit. No file to post, didn't even save the game. The scenerio looks really interesting (more than normal max civs for that map size jammed in like sardines) but this is also why I try to avoid ancient wars when I can. Gambits don't always pay off. And it looked like either a five city challenge or an endless war to get any more land.

The worst part was that our neighbor was Germany. That's the only civ in the game that can build both spears and archers right away, neither of which requires resources, and with militaristic, if you lose out attacking, they promote quickly and then you're stuck fighting elites, which is just really ugly. As ancient wars go, I have not seen a situation this bad before. The land really is tiny, and even going right for the jugular with strong looking odds, I failed.

I wondered if I just attacked too soon, but hearing of your loss with twice as many units... well, I don't suppose it much matters. The crucial thing would have been killing them before they promote, and more units wouldn't help stop that. Sometimes Lady Luck can be unkind.

I for one am enjoying this game, I've played tourny's 4-6 and each one has been distinctly different. I was getting a little "burned out" playing Civ3 until I discovered the tournaments. The tourny map/scenario differences have kept it interesting for me.

                                Domination, 1930AD 3816pts

Did someone say std size map? More like large, std only allows 8 civs on it doesn't it? Anyhow it made for an epic game and there were several times when I thought I'd over-extended myself and was about to get wacked, but I made it through

Discovered the Germans straight up, swapped alphabet for warrior code and knocked 'em on the head with 4 or 5 archers. The English were next as soon as I got galleys, closely followed but the Babylonians. They both gave me heaps of techs for peace before I reneged on the deal and killed 'em.

The Chinese put up a small fight while the Aztecs and Romans got taken out by the Japanese around the same time. The Greeks folded like a house of cards and that left 5 of us. Starting a world war at the time seemed the way to go. It was myself with the Japanese and Zulus Vs the Persians and Egyptians. When the smoke cleared there were only 3.

The Zulus got squashed between a rock and a hard place. After that it was just down to capturing enough Japanese cities to win.

P.S. Went and checked the map size and it was standard afterall. I won't doubt your word again Markos.
