Ghengish: theres no way to fix someone in their starting location. its "player 1 2 3" etc not "japanese start, chinese start, etc". i think this is a move on firaxis's part to show that its the region thats important, not the ppl theirein... i had france in USA once, it was cool i just imagined what it would be like if our culture was more french. (saves me the money for flying to quebec ;P)

And thadd, im going to try out the map from a different start loc, prolly quit/releoad until i get china or north america. as far as im concerned the middl east is done perfectly. who cares if theres so muc damn incense, what you cant trade may be wasted but that just allows for regional specialization, which is pretty much what the world of today does.

i will post here in about 15 hours or something when im done with my next one. the rise of the chinese empire will be my next epic =D

As for your 'flat one' comment, i assumed you mean a world where you cannot wrap around. In reply, i don't know if that is possible but on my world, you can indeed wrap around.
But, but...your projection has the entire globe on a flat map. Looks like you'd fall off the edge of the world if you go too far to the left or right. I'll believe it when I see it, which should be right away, since I have to abandon my current game due to a crash that I can't seem to get around.

P.S. Are your goldfish by some miraculous chance still alive?? hehe

I'm in the middle of a game on this map (Germany starting where Egypt should) and just have to post my praise to ThaddeusAlexander, this is the best map I've played on so far, I can't wate for your other maps.

            The possibility of maps...

Wouldn't it be 'interesting' if a map wasn't a 'static' map?

What if... you could build a map containing continents/islands that migrated in some fashion... even merged with each other in some way? A land bridge appears and survives for only 10/20/30 turns? A continent that slowly revolves. The possibilities would make for some interesting scenarios.

            Just an idle thought.

Don't worry about it Purple, its an inside joke
And just play the map - don't worry about how wrapping around works and such ... I don't think anybody who played my map has had any complaints yet about how the wrap-around works, but if you play and you do just le me know!

Thanks for your praise Hunter ... I've had a setback (that is, errrr ... I've been playing my world map for the past few days ) in my Pangea map but I hope to get it up soon ....... I hope to start prelimenary testing on pangea some time today or later tonight.

ALSO !!! I was thinking of creating a panel of people to help me playtesting a map. I don't like the idea of putting up multiple versions of any of my maps; I want them done right so people don't have to keep re-downloading new versions.
If ANYBODY is interested in playtesting maps for me let me know VIA e-mail or ICQ or PM here on Apolyton and I'd be happy to e-mail you my maps so you can play and give me your vital feedback!!!

I like your idea, but thats up to the mod people, sadly, not me. But there are many other great things that COULD be done with time changes to terrain .... one thing I would like to see is the look of roads changing ... have the old brown roads in the ancient times, upgraded to a cobble-stone looking road in the middle ages and eventually highways and pavement in the modern times .. that would be cool

Thanks for all of your comments!
              Good gaming

... INCOMING NEWS EVENT ... INCOMING NEWS EVENT ... INCOM ...

                NEWS FLASH

Just letting everyone that has been following this thread know that I have solid plans for my next two maps ... The first will be of the earth as it appeared in the early or lower Cretaceous period (about 140 mya).

After reading and reviewing maps, I found that a pure Pangea world wouldn't be all that fun to play on ... after all, it would just be a big silly island

Attached is a small black&white picture of what the landmasses basically look like during this period. I think it will prove to be an amazing map to play ...

My second map is ... well, is still a secret If you've read through this thread, you'll know that it will be a future world but the details and a view of the ideas/theories that i've chosen will remain a mystery for now

HOWEVER!!! If anybody wants to be a play tester for these maps, let me know! You'll be the first people to see my future map after all ... not to mention my next map which should be available for downloading in a few days

As for Alex ( or the 'thadd' as you people like to refer to me ) i think its time for a well deserved nap before i finish up my map and start play testing

                Cheers everyone!
                ~Alex

                  The Picture

( forgot to attach the pic above )

I should also note that on this map all of the small islands have been lost, and many of the lakes and smaller waterways are gone as well ... when I post the map, I'll put an actual shot as before

I'll help you test your maps, Alex.

I just started your New Look map last night, and it's a lot of fun. I began as Persia in Italy. I had Europe and northern Asia all to myself. India was isolated in Britain. Babylon and France were in the Middle East, relatively close together. Oddly enough, the Zulus were in southern Africa. Today I discovered Japan occupying N. America. S. America seems empty, although I haven't explored it completely. (So I haven't had the chance to sail off the edge!

I like this map because it mixes the familiar Earth with the slight unpredictability of the novel projection. Great fun exploring.

Regarding the Cretaceous map, I'm not sure what you meant by the missing islands and waterways, but I would imagine they were there, geologists just don't know enough about their location yet, if they ever do figure it out. So I'd say you could take artistic license and add a few rivers and lakes here and there if you think they would improve gameplay.

What I mean Purp is that on my little picture, you can't see most of the smaller islands and seas ... they exist on my map and they did exist (as far as i know in most cases)...

                                something strange

                                ThadAlex

Like everyone else, I really like the map. I'm in the middle of a game (Regent Level, 7 other civs) and playing as the Babylonians, and I pretty much "own" North America!

A few strange things, maybe it's just me, but my capital has grown to size 12 - without an aqueduct!!! I didn't even have Construction as a tech when it was size 10. Did you do anything else besides create a new map?

This is the first time this has ever happened. Has anyone else noticed this?
