Here's what I've learned from making this map and seeing posts about the other maps.
No one is ever going to be happy with the placement of resources! Some people want too many resources on the map, others think they all belong in their country... etc...
I read one post that said the U.S. shouldn't have more than one oil because it doesn't export any oil. But, the United States is the second largest producer of oil in the world (heck ... now it is probably the number one producer with out the USSR to compete). Yet, on the map I give the U.S. only one oil resource in Texas and one in Alaska. If I were to go for accuracy, the U.S. would have more oil on the map than Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
The best I can do is to be somewhat acurate and place them in a manner that makes a good game. I believe I've done that. If you want to change the location of resources, then go ahead and do so.
