  • UTILITY: Hacked Civ3Edit.exe

Okay, using Resource Hacker, I made the Add and Delete button visible. Guess what - They Work!

Not sure if this will actually work for gameplay but go ahead and give it a try. Here is the link. Maybe we can now add Era, Advances, Units, etc.

Of course, please be sure to backup your original first!!!!

    **UPDATED to version 1.11**

    Civ3Edit.exe

    ***Woohoo*******************
This hacked version is no longer needed with the developers latest release. So I will be removing it from my site. This link will no longer work.

God bless the hackers of the world (well, the nice ones, anyway.)

And, BTW, Dan has given his blessings for hackers to dissect the game files. What more could you ask for? (Please, no sarcastic comments, thank you. We know how you feel.)

    Nice job, donarumo.

      Good Work

So the question is: when this was relatively simple, why did they not release the editor including this functions?

I uploaded a new version. Missed the improvements tab first time around. So you may need to download again.

        Looking for others....

Maybe they wanted everything about the game to be more challenging?

          BTW, good job donarumo

I don't have the game yet so I can't try it out though

Clearly, this functionality was needed during the creation of the game. However, we did not feel it received adequate testing to make it available in the released version of the game. In addition, in yesterday's chat I made mention of some graphical glitches that were discovered that make it difficult to modify some of the art and thus support for additional art was not implemented in the editor. Without the ability to add art, the ability to add units, for example, is pointless, so I disabled the feature temporarily. I did not, however, remove the functionality completely as I intend to fix these limitations. Be aware, though, that some of the items were never intended to have add/delete support and are only in there for development purposes. In other words, use these hacks at your own risk.

Mike, will this fix be released as a free patch or as part of a commercial expansion pack?

And, also to the same point, what sort of a time frame are we talking here (best guess)? Days? Weeks? Months (shudder)?

Why is the ability to add units pointless without the ability to add art? I'm assuming you mean the ability to add existing units to the map.

I think he was referring to the ability to add a type of unit not add a unit to the map and a bug that causes new art not to show up correctly.

I think the ability to add units to the map goes hand in hand with actual scenario creation and not mode making. Scenerio creation looks to be something they had to put off till after release.

I just tried to add things to the official game, and it didn't work. So it only works with mods then?

lol, you got to admit that Mike gives a nice explanation for the disappeared functions

Anyway, I think that most players want to play the game without hacks like this first. Once they get that under control changes like this will be more then needed, but for now ?

I think that all the mods will be a great part of CIV3, but they're not needed for the first couple of months...

The best evidence yet that the poor programmers were rushed by greedy producers !!!!!! He knew it was broke and would need fixing... But they released it anyway !!!!
