    Civ3 Scenarios!?

    Hey All!

I am a fellow civ2 fanatic! I was very disapointed to find there was no scenario tool included with the game. However, after reading several of your posts, I realize that most of you seem to be accomplished hackers/programmers, so I have a imperative request (or challenge) , all I want is to have a revised editor that can allow us to place the civs on a world map! So that Germans begin where Berlin is and America begins where Washington is etc etc. I really want to have a game like that at least! Can anyone help in this ? Let's see what you all can do !

Hey what I really need is to be able to add units to the map or CIV SPECIFC start locations to the map. You know if you can find that?

Great job on finding the add button, I was going to make the Spainish Malis and Incas, and a few other civs and I was thinking I would have to get rid of some old civs but now I can start making new civs. This is very cool!!!!!

Ideally we need a part put into the map files saying

"IF 'civname' = 'Americans' then start@ start_location_2" or whatever, that would allow for user defined civs later.

Oviously I'm not naive enough to think this easy but could anyone out there / someone from Firaxis do this? It would go a long way and at least make the world maps better

          Adjust timer

What I'd like to do is be able to adjust the timer. 2050 is just not enough, especially if you're interested in pursuing the space race via scenario (or even in new game time). *sigh*

I understand it may have to do with the way they designed the database. That is my guess anyway. I know a lot of data can overload a game. But it would be nice to be able to adjust the timer up, down, or simply turn it off.

That has been the one frustrating feature for me, which I'd hoped the scenario editor would "fix."

          Darn.

Otherwise, the game has been fun. It gets more intriguing as I learn more about it. I do enjoy the differences between the Civs and culture adds a lot more emotional weight for me, even if it doesn't seem to affect the other countries much. Or maybe I just haven't gotten far enough in the game.

          Thanks for your time.

The "greedy" producers are the ones who pay the "poor" programmers, and like your parents probably told you, money doesn't grow on trees - it comes from selling products. The editor just isn't an essential part of the product - as much as some of us may make use of it, 90% of the people purchasing the game will probably never do anything with it, so fixing it after release is a reasonable thing to do.

Uhm, I don't see any "add" buttons. I don't see anything different from the original at all.
What am I missing, do you know? Where can I 'find' these eleusive buttons?
From what I could tell, this would allow people to add units to pre-exsisting games, which is something I'd like. Perhaps not like this, but can somsone here give me a real quick explanation of what this mod does?

I'm not really good in this issue but what I figured out is that I if you download this utility and download the CivCopyTool, you can add Civs in the BIC file included in the tool. If you open the Tool and click on "No Map" in the Tool-Bar, you can use the BIC file for random maps.
It also works in the Earth Map[real] by Selanne. You find both, map and tool, in this forum.

Thanx for the great utility... I recently tested using the editor, on the civ3mod.bic file. Added a new tech into the rulez. Works fine but I do have a little problem with it. The new tech doesn't seem to have any arrows attaching from the previous tech. (attach a pic for reference; shown with in the red circle drawn) Are you able to help?

In order to get an arrow to connect your new tech to its prerequisite/s you have to actually edit the background of the science advisor screen.

Go to the art/advisor/ directory, you will find four pcx files corresponding to the for eras (science_ancient.pcx, science_industrial.pcx, etc.)

So, in your case, backup the science_modern.pcx file, then open your favorite graphics editor and modify the arrows to suit your purpose.

I am not a 100 percent sure this is the only way you can do it, but that was how I did it for my little homemade mod.

                      Hope this will help.

                          To Donarumo

I downloaded your file to my zip drive where it now resides. It is neat. I need help with the following: How do I make it part of the regular Civ 3 edit program? Thanks in advance.

The lines are predrawn. You can find the back page pic for that era and edit it. I don't remember where to look right now.

                              Updated

Updated the hacked Civ3Edit to the latest patched release version 1.11. Right now it's the English Only tabs. Let me know if there are any problems.

Any idea on how to make it display the English tabs, then, please? Because after the patch mine suddenly started having German text in the editor, and downloading the hacked editor doesn't make any difference. I still can't add a new unit, or anything.
