    thanks for the hacked editor.

Although it would be a pain, is there any way you can make it so that the editor modifies the Civilopedia.txt and PedialIcons.txt files automatically.

For example, when you add a new unit thru the editor right now, you then have to open both of those text files and append alot of information in various places. it'd be great if the editor would do it automatically...save hours for everyone.

Oh yeah, I nearly forgot. I couldn't face the idea of having to use the original editor. Nice one. Many things would be impossible, or very hard at least, without your work.

        editor question

        heya,

hate to break up the poly sci 101 here, but anybody else having trouble when creating a new civ (with the hack or with copytool) that the game crashes when you go to the diplomacy screen? (assumes playing the civ you just created). Anything to do about it?

Sorry for going "off topic" but does this file now incorporate the changes that were part of the Civ III patch? The patch replaced the civmod file so now I can do the things that were part of the patch but I can't create new units, advances etc.

            Problems with the editor

            Hi folks,

if there is some place talking about the editor I would be glade.

I faced some problems with the original and the new one (in german?):

            1. can't see the new buttons in some directories.

            2. when I edit some units in name and icon the game crashed when the first unit was build.

            3. any idea about building new units or new civ's like the Austrians or the spanish..

            best wishes

I am a fellow civ2 fanatic! I was very disapointed to find there was no scenario tool included with the game. However, after reading several of your posts, I realize that most of you seem to be accomplished hackers/programmers, so I have a imperative request (or challenge) , all I want is to have a revised editor that can allow us to place the civs on a world map! So that Germans begin where Berlin is and America begins where Washington is etc etc. I really want to have a game like that at least! Can anyone help in this ? Let's see what you all can do !

              --Hohenzollern--
I couldn't of said it better! My BIGGEST disappointment was the lack of a good editor. I like to create maps and place civs where I want them to be. No overhead view of the map is also a bad flaw. How in the world can one expect to create maps "easily" without a radar overhead view of the damn thing just like is in the game? Now that I have the game working with the patch I now want the editor fixed!

After reading every post the question still stands. How do we use it?

I am too a wee bit dissapointed, I liked in CTP:1 where you could go in and do things easily and edit amount of forest, length and repitition of river, because rivers are a great source for shields and food, as well as gold, ect.

I hope we get this editor squared away soon!

Because it's not that simple. I've been playing around with it and quite often making a minor change can have some serious consequences. I'm guessing they didn't want to include those features yet in order to avoid having someone get upset because their game keeps crashing.

Any chance you could give us one with the 1.16f features? Everytime I end up adding something, I have to load/save through the default editor as well.

However, we did not feel it received adequate testing to make it available in the released version of the game. In addition, in yesterday's chat I made mention of some graphical glitches that were discovered that make it difficult to modify some of the art and thus support for additional art was not implemented in the editor. Without the ability to add art, the ability to add units, for example, is pointless, so I disabled the feature temporarily. I did not, however, remove the functionality completely as I intend to fix these limitations. Be aware, though, that some of the items were never intended to have add/delete support and are only in there for development purposes. In other words, use these hacks at your own risk.
Wouldn't it be possible to at least allow us to copy some of the existing files, ala Civ3CopyTool? I'd really like to add some specialist Workers to my game, ones with some of their automated abilities shut off, so they only perform one specific task.

From what I could tell, this would allow people to add units to pre-exsisting games, which is something I'd like. Perhaps not like this, but can somsone here give me a real quick explanation of what this mod does?
The units feature doesn't work well. For that you will need the Civ3CopyTool. Wonders are also a problem as the game will crash as soon as the splash screen graphics comes up. Again, Civ3CopyTool, which unfortunately doesn't work on my system. I can continue only because I'm using Norton Crashguard. Basic improvements work just fine though, as does the resources, though occasionally there may be a minor conflict. In my case, the game crashed after I added Sheep to my hills, but the problem cleared up when I changed my Gold to a luxury.

Is this utility ever going to get updated to use with 1.16?

Or can I use it as is?
