So then, if distance and rank corruption sum to total corruption, would building a palace, every 2-3 rings away, reduce the distance half of corruption? Rank corruption seems to be a matter of just having the right improvements and what not - so not so much of an issue of town placement.

Oh yes, RCP. Thanks. At http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=59216 there's a link to a pdf document that explains RCP. Worth your time checking it out.

Theoretically, yes, but you can only have one palace at a time.

Rank corruption is entirely based on distance. That's how the rank is determined. In Conquests, they "fixed" the system to make RCP null and void by introducing date of founding as a tiebreaker between two cities the same distance from the capital.

Just for illustrative purposes, you could have a size 1 city with no improvements, no culture and no growth, that was distance of 6 from the capital, and it would be ranked ahead of a size 18 metropolis with >1000 culture, several great wonders and every available improvement that was distance 7 from the capital.

So RCP is worthless for the latest patched C3C?

RCP is worthless for out of the box C3C, too. They also adjusted the Forbidden Palace to the way it was originally supposed to work. Instead of acting as a second full palace, it only affects distance corruption. IOW, cities closer to the FP than palace will use their distance to the FP for that component of overall corruption. It does still increase the OCN, though, which is an empire-wide boost.

The upshoot of it is that in C3C it's best to get your FP up quickly, ideally on the edge of your core, rather than wait for the perfect location.
