Still, it's nice to have a guide where all the information you'll ever need to know is in one place and will stand the Test of Time (get it? ). And there are small numbers of people rediscovering the classics every now and then, so it's gotta be useful to somebody out there...

The "wiki" in "wikibook" comes from "WikiWikiWeb", the first ever wiki. "Wiki wiki" is Hawaiian for "super fast".

Oh. I think I get it now.

The bottom line, though, is you can't put something in a wiki unless you wrote it yourself, you have permission, or quoting it falls under "fair use". This is particularly true because anything on a MediaWiki website (such as the wikibook) falls under the GNU Free Documentation License, and many people might not want their words to be placed under that license (and legally they can't be unless the author wants them to be).

I am not a lawyer, but it would be my assumption that anything posted on a public forum would essentially fit the definition of 'public domain' thereby falling under the 'fair use' clause. Stories posted on the site may be an exception; but, as a writer, I generally consider any comments fair game for use in other works.

MadBomber - according to the links I posted, that assumption is common but incorrect. Normally I wouldn't care about it, but I feel an obligation to keep the Wikibook "clean" because I don't really own it.

Nuclear Master - I'm concentrating on the SMAC wikibook at the moment, since I have a bunch of information I have permission to copy that almost fits right in. I'll probably start working on the Civ2 and especially Civ3 books more after that.

Ditto. Hope it doesn't collapse under its own weight.

Thanks for the link about copyright. I could probably make the arguement that it still falls under the 'fair use' clause, but you are probably right to be cautious. If you run into any of my posts that you would like to use, feel free to use them as you see fit.

How do you create the tables that are in the unit list section? I have entered the UUs but they need to be in table with cost and other info too.

Actually, I'm probably going to convert the page from tables to headers, like the SMAC guide, although I may keep tables for quick lookup as well. Again, I'm concentrating on the SMAC guide at the moment (which is actually starting to look pretty darn nice, thanks to anarchie's help.)

So don't worry about it for now. Put the info in if you like and we can organize it later.
