civ3 won't bring any new big sales.
pirates 2 and CIV (=Civ IV) however will.

yes, it is sad. but the game obviously is good enough that civfanatics like us are still playing like mad it 2.5 years after the release
most other games (especially FPS) have a life cycle of a few months... with a few exceptions like counterstrike and halflife...

i never bought the gold version...

i don't just that for C IV, they spend less resources on fancy graphics and more on programming, features and bugfixing

Having thought about the nature and extent of the remaining bugs, and the fact that despite this we are all still playing CivIII like mad......my considered opinion (ie, guess) is that there is no reason to expect another patch. Roll on CivIV!

              The Barbarian Bug

well all my efforts to get firaxis to notice the new bugs seem to be all for naught. my original post with all the bugs are here for anybody's interest:

the REAL purpose of this post however is so that anybody out there can fix the hated barbarian bug, the ONLY bug that really ticks me off IMHO.

for those who DONT know this bug, it is where barbarians will ONLY attack units that are directly NW or SE of the said barb. if a unit is ANY other direction the barb will ignore it, WITH THE EXCEPTION of unarmed units like scouts and settlers, in which case the barb will kill it.

so if ANYBODY knows how to fix this hated bug PLEASE post it here, and it will be HIGHLY appreciated.

I've been playing in DEBUG (because I like watching the little buggers), unpatched, and I've noticed that the barbarians start off attacking like they should (in any direction). It's only later that they become highly...selective.

                Also, the ships aren't moving.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Even when you have a ship nearby?

Actually, they just started moving last night -- it appears that they just sit there until another ship stumbles into movement range -- not sighting range, either, I mean from several squares away.

odd isnt it, why they would go after when sighted?

                      Hmm learned something new!

Wonder if it appies to Conquests as well?

                      • With Vanilla CivIII and PtW, they would wander a lot, going has far as movement restrictions would let them.

If you give them an unrestricted unit (I like to give barbs privateers ), they usually ended up somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Nope, or at least HIGHLY doubtful. We are all making do with the last... the best effort that I know of re dealing with the remaining shortcomings is the AU Mod:

The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

I hope they spend less time on bug generation, so they don't have to fix so much...
                                Seriously. Kung freaking fu.
