Roxane, our capital, started with a granary after the mandatory 2 curraghs. By now, we already met Carthage, Scandinavia, the Hittites and Portugal. Thanks to extensive trading, we have now Alphabet, Pottery, Writing and WC. Philosophy in 19 turns and 338 gold in our National Bank. Roxane goes on a warrior (later spearman) / settler combo, thus the barracks. However, we are ranked last…

Some more clever trading brought us more techs. Philosophy gave us Map Making. We preferred it instead of Republic (which we will get later on anyway). On an archipelago, discovering the other civs is our top priority.
We have now 377 gold, Literature in 27 turns at 80%.

A great leap ahead. The Vikings declared war, and are losing it, also thanks to our tight city spacing (C-T-T-C). We just entered the Second Age, Portugal and Babylon have Feudalism. We are researching Engineering in 7 turns at 80%, 246 gold (-19/turn).

We decided to lower our research rate and make more citizens happy. After all, they deserved it. Our military is now 11 infantry, 5 destroyers, but growing fast, as there is nothing else to build in most cities.

Willy could have won diplomatically. Time for some alternate history.
With 47’000+ gold we can afford to research at –135/turn.
