It seems we have a surfeit of silly rules - for my contribution how about foot soldiers can only move orthogonally and horses diagonally.

However, I think I shall pass the opportunity this time.

Patashu - unfortunately ToT is incompatible with both 2.42 & MGE -- you might see if there is any interest in succession games in the ToT forum then bring the game back here for us to lurk

OK, I am up for this if anybody can read my save files - they were created under Classic Mac, but I stuffed and unstuffed them as Smash suggested, and they may work now.

      OK, here goes.

Patashu, I'm thinking of starting a ToT succession soon (extended original, maybe a redux of the Invasion Earth game that I have fond memories for). But if someone else starts one, I'd probably join it instead.

If you don't start your own game, watch this forum for mine, over the next couple of weeks

Grigor - unfortunately I cannot open your save with either 2.42 or MGE and your zip is not recognised by my winZip

I'd be interested ion this game

              My proposed silly rule:

In EVERY odeo year we have to change gouverment

atawa, a point of clarification -- when we have just despotism, should I assume that we don’t revolt every four years (no government to change to)? And second, that when we do revolt we have to change, not just revolt and reselect the prior government. So with a traditional path, we’ll be despots for a few centuries, then toggle between kings and despots with four turns on and four turns off, then toggle between kings and consuls, four years at a time.

                  So we have:

Old n Slow -- trucks go west
                  STYOM -- Rule TBD
Maybe grigor (needs a compatable version of civ II)
maybe patashu (needs a compatable version of civ II)
atawa -- must change government every four years
rjmatsleepers or Jrabbit (classic or MGE)
                  and after six weeks,
                  atomant -- Rule TBD

                  ------------------------------

Hmmm -- atawa’s rule with rjmsleepers’ rule means that we must move the capital every fours years as well so now we have a true understanding of the cost to play classic -- One can only wonder what the consequences will be with MGE & Jrabbit’s potential rule.

Question to the Poly gurus -- is there software out that one can use to 'upgrade' their classic civ to an MGE compatable version? Maybe rjmsleepers can take advantage of this, avoiding a vote situation.

Silly but not silly "ha ha"

I think we'd have to amend rjm's rule to apply only to a new government type. That would be doable.

SG[1]'s orthogonal/diagonal rule reminds me of La Fayette's humorous admission in the Sticky Mouse game that his first forays into Civ were hampered by his use of only the orthogonal movement keys. I commented that it was amazing he stuck with it through more than one game. So restricting movement of one unit type is probably enough for the game...

I suspected before. Now, after seeing the proposed rules, I'm sure of it!

We already have a lot of rules re: wonders... so the alphabetical research rule is my choice

After we learn Alphabet, all new sciences must be selected from the top of the list.

We can start using this rule after mon is invented, although being in anarchy half the time could be interesting

And yeah, change to another goverment every 4 years after mon.

I'm not a guru but there is a patch that transforms clasic to MGE, try the downloadsection here or else at CFC.

Maybe grigor (needs a compatable version of civ II)
                                (patashu confirmed lurker)
atawa -- Must change government every four years
Straybow -- Happiness is the work of human hands (and feet, and other parts)
                                (Bloody Monk confirmed lurker)
rjmatsleepers or Jrabbit (classic or MGE)
                                and after six weeks,
                                atomant -- Rule TBD

Straybow, I’m assuming that the happiness improvements are temples, coliseums, cathedrals (BETTER get Mike’s!). There could be an argument to include marketplaces, banks and stock exchanges, but with zero luxuries, these may be excludable. Courthouses count as well, but only in Democracy (build them up before hand…). Police Stations are in, but only in Republic or Democracy (has anybody EVER built one of those?) and superhighways are out because they only affect trade. I assume that Wonders are excluded because they are not “improvements”.

Thanks to STYOM’s rule, atawa’s is less of a concern -- we’ll be despots for a while. And come to think of it, we may never even SEE trucks.

Still up for discussion (otherwise I’ll make the call) size of map, age, land, etc. (Any votes for how many starts I try hoping for many free techs?) -- Actually, with some of the past research done here, the starting civ COULD make a difference -- any choices?
