  • To germanos:
So long, and thanks for all the fish! (apologies to the late Douglas Adams)

To the Assyrian Consul (as he is escorted across the Seyhan):
The Minoan-Hittite alliance is ancient, and our arrangement with the Greeks had until recently been solely trade and tech oriented. But when Assyrian offensive units dallied rather than move directly out of Hittite territories we became alarmed.

In response, the peaceful empire of the Silver Throne used a few units to herd the Assyrians toward neutral ground. We also sent a solitary 1-move Swordsmen (yawn ) to block any probes across the river.

If the new ruler in Ninevah still wishes to take affront at our lowly Swordsmen as an excuse to harass and slay our servants then be warned that we shall extract a heavy vengeance upon Assyria.

    • The Hittite Consul to Assyria notes that the new ruler in Ninevah closely resembles the former Regent of the Silver Throne whose portrait hangs in the hall of records.

      Separated at birth?

      • Zedd's Choice

With a heavy heart, Pharoah notes the passing of his dear friend and brother, the mighty Didanu, High King of Assyria. He also serves notice to the young pup now ensconced upon the throne, that this has severed the bond which bound Assyria and Egypt. Be warned, Assyria now faces an Alliance of 6 Great Nations. The Chariots of Egypt stand ready to roll, her spearmen sharpen their blades, and the hounds bay and strain toward the north. All await but a single word to fall from Pharoahs lips, and then truly Assyria's fate shall be sealed.

Yet we hold a brief while to offer Assyria one last chance. Zedd, thy people have sinned mightily against the nations of the earth, and a heavy penance must be paid. Pharoah holds before you a cup of bitter herbs and sour - drink from it, agree now to accept the terms which shall be imposed upon thy nation, and the sons and daughters of Assyria shall live to see children of their own. Spurn this, thy last and only hope, and the armies of the Nations of All the World shall march north and south and east and west, measuring their step to the beat of the drums of war, and we shall slaughter every last man, woman, and child, until we join beneath the walls of Nineveh to witness the great conflagration that signals the final tortured hours of the last Assyrian on earth.

        The choice is thine.

        May Thoth guide thy mind,

        Ramesses II

        • a property of CivDip map exchange

          technical note:

Before my turn I applied a barter with maps from Minos.
CivDip has evidently the following property: sizes of cities of third-party civs are refreshed (therefore I see exact sizes of Assyrian cities).
I am not sure how it works with a MP map exchange but I think it is different...(?)

So has the passing of Assyria's Great leader somehow been translated into an act of war against Egypt, or am I mistaken that Egypt and Assyria were on Semi-Friendly terms?

You may well find that While I am not as "Hasty" as our previous leader, I do not shy away from battle.

Yet we hold a brief while to offer Assyria one last chance. Zedd, thy people have sinned mightily against the nations of the earth, and a heavy penance must be paid

What price do you seek, what pennance is to be paid? Indeed for which "sins" would you seek redemtion?

How shall we price the folly of man, would Egypt like to lead us in fine example?
I will take stock in my kingdom and find what is best for it's people. If peace be the answer then Peace we will strive for. However, Assyria will not be opened to covetous hands for the sake of redemtion, instead I will offer the possesion I value most and covet above all else....Trust.

              King of Assyria

              • Zedd - I suppose you want the PBEM zip file.

Zedanu - This is not just about your relations with Egypt. Pharoah speaks for all of us in saying that Assyria has sinned, and must pay the price. If you do not take this chance for peace, you will also see Persian chariots rolling through your broken gates.

                • Yes.
There might be semi-friendship relations between Didanu and Pharaoh, but evidently Pharaoh is not willing to wait when Egypt will be sneak-attacked too.

Six Kings will formulate terms of peace if Zedanu wants hear them (?). Then Zedanu will have a choice to accept or refuse.

Peace terms will encompass war reparations (like ground and cities) and conditions that will prevent Assyria to attack in the future (like restrictions how and where Assyrian units can move).

                    • I may have it on an old disk, but I'm not shure so I wanted to DL again. (New HDD since then ) I will try to find it tonight as my DL speed droped to 800 bytes per min.

I havn't looked at the save yet, but from the info I have gathered it would appear that Assyria is in the barganing position

I am open to "cease-fire" discussions and even treaties, but you will be hard pressed convincing me to give up anything that would chang my defensive status. I could very well agree to cut my forces in half and find "The 6 Kings" riding up to the capitol wiht 3000 war hungry veterans behind them.

                          • Wise Counsel for King Zedanu

The "Big Six" even now discuss terms that would ensure our safety in the event of future Assyrian misbehaviour. Thy bandit nation has sneak-attacked four of the six other civilizations of the world, and we grow tired of watching our backs. Assyria is much larger than the next biggest nation - ye own 18 cities to 13, 58 units to 31, and in size and quality of terrain, the advantage is greater still. We believe THIS to be the source of Assyria's bullying tendencies, and see no alternative other than size reduction.

Whether King Zedanu agrees to terms or not, this WILL occur. The terms our alliance is debating will not cripple Assyria - she will remain a major player on the world stage - but her days of dominance are over. Do not choose to follow the rash course of War Against The Six, for as surely as the Nile flows unceasingly North, things will be MUCH worse.

I could very well agree to cut my forces in half and find "The 6 Kings" riding up to the capitol with 3000 war hungry veterans behind them.
This is thy certain fate should ye NOT accept the terms. Peruse the vast historical record of this thread however, and thee shall see a constant desire for peace over war. We do not desire thy destruction, for we have never chosen this path. Thy gracious acceptance of our terms will serve as certain notice that Assyria has chosen to follow a new path, and at long last desires to rejoin the fold of peaceable nations.

Restrain thy temper Zedanu, and heed this wise counsel.

                            • Kull, Your request to extend the 72hr rule for this turn was reasonable. But when do we move on? I propose a deadline of two more days for Zedanu to make his choice and two days after that for your turn.

I don't completely understand Zedd's computer problems. If he needs info about the game, he can PM one of us, or maybe Sparrowhawk, for help.
