I remember first getting CivII... then I saw this TOT and thought? Extra maps? Cool!

Had to get it once I heard of it... even went out and got an emulator so I could play the dang thing (Mac user here.)

TOT actually runs quite well on my old G4... I almost always play it for one of the mod packs rather than the original game, but those mod packs are worth every cent I spent.

CivIII, on the other hand, doesn't support very good multiplayer (if any from what I've heard about it) along with all the other things that you all have already mentioned.
I'm not conceited, conceit is a fault and I have no faults...

Civ and WoW are my crack... just one... more... turn...

risking some bashing I nevertheless wanted to say:

CtP2 also has scenarios and mods and even more, an active community working on it - so you might want to have a look, that's up to you!

P.S. I never played TOT, so what do I know...

I wouldn't beat up on you for liking CtP2. Heck, I hang out in AC-Fiction, I have no right to mock anybody! Just a little joshing towards AC-Fiction, sorry.

But yeah, I hear Call to Power has a lot of modification and customization going for it. If that's your thing then good for you.

CtP does have a lot of open features... however it wasn't as widely accepted as TOT was... especially CtP2.

CtP1, on the other hand, seems to have a wider acceptance... at least the CtP1 community is still going strong...

Why does it have to be I love this game but hate the game you like? Why not just play them all? Any civ type game in my book is cool with me!

Because they take too much space on the hard drive. That is why I uninstalled CptP2 (there weren't too many mods at that time, and the game pitiful AI cries for mods to correct it). I never installed it again because ToT offered enough for me to be happy. Plus I can play scenarios and OCC in ToT whereas OCC in CtP2 is impossible (the science victory requires your owning half the world so it is rather pointless). Still, if I had the time, I'd probably reinstall CtP2 and try some mods, but time I have not...

I agree that civ-type games are cool in general, none actually "suck" however some are just more fun to play than others...

You're all right - as freaking fan of CtP2 I was just as always trying to advertise when I stumbled over this thread. Actually I'm rather interested to play ToT once but so far I don't know anybody in my neighborhood who's got it.
Well, see you on the CtP2 Forums, because that's where I'll be!

I'm finishing a mod I have been playtesting... It makes ToT a little more realistic IMO. I redid the tech tree, and tweeked unit abilities and made some new ones and deleted some old ones... I also have a lot of custom maps I made. They are primarily earth-like, a mixture of continents and isles.

                      Very interesting
Is there somewhere me might soon download and try your mod.
I am sure you might find here as many happy testers as you wish
What is the size of your maps by the way ?

Now there would be a cool idea! With the ease of scenario making, and multiple maps...

"Give 7 years of experience to Civ III and you will obtain your next Test of Time": that's the less they could do !!!

but i had hope that all the 5-6 years of experience given by Civ2 addons and ToT (and Call to Power) would soon be use for Civ3 !!!!

i don't wait a Civ3 without a goodmap editor, without civ start locations, without easy units editor.... without scenario creation possibilities !!!

ToT is the highest development of the Civ genre...so far.
No way!! Civ Call to Power 2 is the highest development of the civ genre so far without a doubt,

CtP2 takes the civ series where no other civ has gone before (my god that sounds lame) but its true

especially with all the mods and massive moding capabilites with CtP2 through using SLIC.
Not just most moddable civ game but easily the most moddable game around just behind half life probably
                                Its amazing

However i would still play ToT over Civ3 anyday.

The only thing that is in ToT that isnt in CtP2 is the capability to have multiple maps which fundementally is good if it where implemented better, other than that the game is backwards in every other way and the graphics are awfull. And the SFX is just horrible. +the gameplay is awkward mainly relating to the Windows style GUI.
