  • A Very Civil War

Or, The War Between the Mates.

Gareth, here's my save file. Nothing much to report - changed the tax level, changed a number of build orders.

I am determined to preserve the Union, Sir! End your Rebellion, or face the consequences!

btw, I had to zip it, since Apolyton doesn't seem to support hot. files.

Sir, you should know of our determination to preserve our State's rights. Be assured, we shall defend our liberties and property from any Northern aggression to our last pixelated man!

Nothing to report. Btw I loaded the save as a multiplayer hot-game. Was this the right thing to do, as it let me look at your cities before starting my turn. Not that I'd ever abuse this of course

Notes: Shouldn't Norfolk be in US hands?

    Terrain looks lovely btw

The Union begins mobilizing it's resources. The southern rebellion will collapse at the first clash. We'll all be home by Christmas.

Checked the Norfolk thing. It was captured by the CSA at the start of the conflict, and recaptured by the Union about a year later. On the other hand, Ft. Monroe across the bay remained in Union hands throughout the war. I'll fix that in the release version.

I was going to suggest adding Fort Monroe which was very important in the Peninsula campaign. A union presence there threatens Richmond from the east.

Ft. Monroe is there, right near Yorktown. The problem is that I put it under CSA control.

Is it possible to be in peace with one AI civ or forbid the human player to attack this civ until a special tech is researched without using the house rule?

Is it also possible to make enduring peace to two AI controlled civs?

War may be averted if you surrender your fortress garrisons in the South. We shall be compelled to take them by force if you refuse!

Not a lot to report: moved a couple of units. Felt a bit worried when I looked at the treasury. Surely King Cotton should be keeping the books balanced before any Union blockade?

@McM: It's a long time since I played a PBEM / hotseat game. Do I need to press cntr-something on finishing my move to prevent the AI from doing stuff before Brian moves?

Only in Network games (ctrl+N). In a hotseat game you just need to place the cursor in a remote corner so that Brian does not get an eyeful of your surprise manouvre when he loads up your turn. When you load up the previous players turn just hit return straight away, no peaking

You could award the tech to allow the CSS Virginia to be built when the Rebs capture Norfolk. IIRC they built it on the burnt hull of the USS Merrimac which the US Navy tried to destroy in their panicky evacuation of Norfolk

@ Drew: thanks for the info. As if I'd peek at Brian's cities!

I'll answer these questions on the Civil War multiplayer thread.

Sir, we are continuing to mobilize our state militas, should, God forbid, your various States remain in a state of Rebellion. Otherwise, we have sent out a number of new Build Orders to several of our Cities and so forth. Oh yes, and we have Researched 'Unionism'. Pray leave aside 'Confederacy' as it is your Rubicon. The 'Ides of March' await thee, O Caesar of Slavery!

Why don't you add a password with your next save. I'll do the same.

There shouldn't be a need for passwords, especially between friends. Even with passwords I think you could probably cheat by re-naming the file to .sav and taking a look if you were determined to cheat.

The Southern States have shown their determination to resist by establishing a Confederacy and mobilising our army; President Jeff Davis warns you once more to disband your garrison at Fort Sumter or suffer the consequences.

General mobilisation and build order changes.

Note: typo - 'sucession' preq for Confederacy
