Anyway, it's great to see you're working on this scenario again. I need to get back to work on Sobieski sometime...

                • No, no, they won´t represent spanish troops during the Civilwar.
They should be the Alabama Inf.

I´ve given the Southern state troops their own state flag icon. I hope that they´re the right ones.
But I will also post a units file with the standard Confederate flag using instead of the state flags. So the player can choice which flags he would like to see on his troops.

                  • I´m using the following flags (from left to right):

Virginia, NC, SC, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana and Arkansas.

                    • I´m now working on the event files for the Union campaign. Unfortunatelly the flags won´t work like I would have them to work. This version will be much harder to win and covers both theaters in one map. I´ve cut off all parts which I don´t need so it´s not a very big map.

                      • We have just started a five player game of Barthi's Sezessionskrieg at Civ Webring. It looks like a really well made scenario and may give you some ideas for your game. I have been doing some intense reading up on the subject so I may be able to give you some more advice on gameplay once I have played some turns.

                        A few thoughts:

Inclusion of the European nations is only really useful for a multiplayer game where trade is vital or if the game is to be played as the Confederates and they need to get cash by running the Federal bloackade. If it is single player as the Union then the AI Rebels aren't really going to trade effectively, blockade or no blockade!

Barthi has included several historical events, such as the attack by General Butler on New Orleans and Grant's offensives at Shiloh and Vicksburg. I think this is a mistake in a multiplayer game as it is down to the player to decide his strategy, though it could be interpreted as orders from on high which bypass your authority. I would be wary of including such events unless they are designed to assist the AI controlled nation and make the game harder for the human player.

Barthi has included railroads which were an essential part of the war and effected strategy. I am always wary of including conventional railroads as they can make the game too easy for the human player, but to leave them out entirely would be a shame. Maybe roads could be railroads and most units could have good movement rates to compensate?

                        • I would do this (on the railroad issue):

Roads are single-track RR. The rare (and unbuildable?) Double-track RR would be the "real" railroad improvement.

Something like that allows for short stretches to be covered relatively quickly, but moving from say Georgia to Virginia still takes time.

As stated by the Civ people who made the MPG Civil War scenario, roads (I believe at 1/4 move) represent the effects of railroads fairly well.

                          • @McMonkey and Elensar:

I´ve included the British Empire with only one city in the Ocean (representing London). The British are only interesting when playing with the Confederates for trading and breaking out through Union Blockade.
When playing with the Union you can only attack London. But I won´t do this because the British civ won´t destroyed after capturing London and will make a hard counter attack.

Historical events in my scenario are very significant for my scenario. Often they are triggered when the human player conquered an important city. Some other events are triggered by an exact date.

I didn´t include railroads as I think they destroy the balance of the game and making it very easy for the human player. To consider the importance of railroads during this war I gave the Infantry units an amount of 3 movement points, cavalry units 4 and Artillery units 2 except the Mortars, they have a movement point of 1. I´ve to say that my map isn´t so large because AI controlled civs are not able to use their units effective on those big maps.
Also you get the possibility to create Train Stations (Airports) in your cities to make transports (airlifts) from one city to another. Ground units are able to attack those transports, because I gave them the "can attack aircraft units".

                              • What Cyrion said. You'll need to come up with something for "Enemy fighters can intercept our airlift".

You know, you might even want to make that merely an ability of cavalry, to make having long distance cavalry raids tempting (and recruiting cavalry even very tempting if less useful in pitched battle).

Not strictly accurate (infantry was better at dealing with railroads than cavalry raiders) - but appropriate.
