So, does anyone think the Germans need beefed up for the initial 7 turns, so they can make some impact on the Sovs?

The balance is making the Russians still playable to a degree, and not making it too easy for the German player?

What do you all think?

Well, I do know there seems to be some error in the events file for the winter of 1943 (looking through the report.txt, but haven't found any error so far)...

Also, it seems, playing on the Western Front, that artillery is used more often than armor is. I think this might have something to do with the short distances between cities, and/or maybe my own playing style is leading to just city siege after city siege, but still...

As for the Eastern Front thing, maybe you could do distinct events files for different civs or something? Although you've got enough on your hands as it is with all those events files for the different periods...

As I suspected!
The events from 1943 onwards referred to a defunct unit, the early versions of the T-34.

I have fixed that now...And will upload/replace the wiki files!

I also noticed during my game with the Soviets that the Germans didn´t conquer many cities. I would decrease the units in western Russia and only use the Fortification unit in a line from Leningrad - Moscow - Stalingrad. Maybe then it would be possible to play the major battles in Russia (Kharkov, Khursk, Leningrad, Stalingrad...) with the Soviets.

I won´t give the Germans more units, the Russian Campaign could then too easy for the player.

Sounds like good advice...I will make that my weekend project!

I'll try to reduce the units in the most western Russian cities,
but make them tougher to conquer as you get futher East.

This (hopefully) can simulate the Blitzkrieg running out of
steam and logistical lines stretching, etc. At the same time,
I don't want to make it a cakewalk for the Axis player...

Although I guess the first few months were a cakewalk
as Germany rolled all over Stalin! But the Winter will give
the Russians a chance to get some revenge...!

If you are going to rework the .scn, there is another thing that might require your attention.

The road network in Germany has been gerrymandered to the point where it seems unrealistic. For example, Bremen and Frankfurt are a mere 4 squares apart N-S but to to get from one to the other by road is a choice of either first going 8 squares west to Antwerp in Begium or 10 squares east to Salzberg in Austria.

As a whole, Germany, a country that had Autobahns, has virtually no N-S communications.

I will take a look at that - I do notice the German AI could have units moving faster!

The pathfinding seems to get stuck at mountains, etc!

And I notice the Sturmovik is a total bugger...Destroying my glorious Romanian armies!!!

SCN File updated with much-improved German road system,
which leads to invasion launch points and connects to Latvia.

Also better positioned German units in Romania, to prevent
military traffic jams. And I gave Romania additional fighters.
(to give a slight chance against roving Sturmoviks!)
