One quick critique. The shields for the units, should they be hidden? Some are hidden, some are placed behind the unit, etc... Should they all be showing?

Also, the other Civs keep wanting Caesar's authority. Could the tech be given an unfavorable rating to the other civs so they won't keep wanting to acquire it? Is there another tech that could be traded?

The shields behind the units is an irritation. It's totally accidental, and I can't find a cure by swapping the units from slot to slot, a solution which is limited anyway. Fortunately, the units that have their shields hidden--the Legion and the Cretan Light Infantry--can be guessed at, at least. If the Cretan is attacked, it's an almost insured dead Cretan, unless it's in a city. As for the legion, you can guess by the movement amount, and because of the high H/P there's no worry unless the movement is down to 2 or less. But yes, they should all be showing, and if you know how to fix that, well, thanks in advance!

I've edited the text so it's rather obvious that you shoudn't yield Caesar's Authority. But no, there isn't another tech to be traded, and the Gauls don't have anything of use anyway, besides "Gaulish Strategy" which should obviously be non-touchable. I could make CA repugnant to the militaristic Gaulish civs...

Thanks for checking it out Harry!

Eaaaassssy fix. Take a look at the units file. See the green unit grid? Now do you see the the little blue dots on the unit grid? Dots on the top and on the left designate the shield placement. Make sure there is one dot on the top and one on the left of each box.

Take a look at your Garrison unit and you can see how the graphical shield lines up to the blue dots. The shield lines up to the dots because the shield is supposed to overlap the generic civ color shield.

Now that is a priceless tidbit of information.

Been playtesting more, and came up against something very strange. After each event fires once, they don't fire at all anymore.

Let me illustrate. There is one event where, if a village unit is killed, a text box pops up and money is added to your account. After killing the village unit the first time, the text pops up and money is added. The second time a village unit is killed, there is no text, ( ) and no money added ( ). And still nothing when a village unit is killed the third time, the fourth, etc...and I know that there is no JUSTONCE command in all the events, so I'm baffled.

Has anyone else had this problem with events?

*edit* Another tidbit that might help solve this. The bug appeared after I ran the bat files, and has plagued me ever since, whether I run the bat files anymore or not.

But I think you misunderstood. It isn't just this event that's acting up. ALL the events fail. After being triggered and successfully firing once or twice, they shut down and don't fire when triggered. Just don't work anymore. Hmmm...just wondering, could this be because there are too many events?

No, if you had too many events it would crash once you launch the scen!

If you changed the rules file via the bat files, are you sure that the names of your civ are correct in the new rules file? Maybe the event files just doesn't recognize the romans for what they are?

That has to be it! I'll need to replace 2 events with 8.

                          @McMonkey

Don't bother playtesting until I post the updated version.

                            • In the old events file, there was a 5 event sequence where, if a Legion is destroyed, each Gaulish civ gets a powerful Gaulish Chief unit. Since the ANYBODY designation is a nono now, these 5 events would turn into 20 events. I have to cut it out.

I'm hoping for a little advice+opinion. What would be a good consequence for losing a legion besides losing money?

                              • Right. Nothing.

When I think about it, deleting these events would put the events file just under the max holding space allowed...will post the updated scen soon.
