RIP lest we forget... SG (2) and LaFayette -- Civ2 Succession Games Brothers-in-Arms

    • Congratulations to StuporMan (M.Civ.) for bringing us home (sort of). I think I will play the last turns for myself just to have it in my hall of fame as a reminder of the great time that I had participating in this thread.

Many thanks to Bloody Monk and -Jrabbit for hosting this succession game despite the restrictions on their own ability to play. I hope (and have the strong impression) that they did enjoy watching and guiding the rest of us as the game went on. We must do this again at some point (even if it will be hard to come up with as good an excuse as celebrating Bloody Monk's entry into the Hall of Fame).

Thanks to all who participated in this celebration of our very own Hall of Famer, Bloody Monk.

Thank you. Br'er Rabbit...and thanks to all. It was fun to play a game again.

An observation: Obsolescence is the one thing that was able to bring down the great game, Civ2. Either the platform is no longer available (Mac) or the players (me, for example) have seen their best days. In truth, on most days I'm less valuable than a dead Mac. At least the Mac can be used as a boat anchor.

But, Civ2 will always be a part of my life. I have permanent retinal burn-in from too many "one-more-turn" late nights so that when I stare at the floor I see irrigation patterns all around my feet. And I don't mind.

Peace be with you, my Brothers.

It none the less remains a great game and IMO far better than Civ3 and Civ4. Civ4 in particular seems to have lost its way by over complication. I have learned a lot from the many people who have participated in these games over the years. Sadly some are no longer with us and most (including me) are no longer active players. If this game turns out to be our last hurrah, then dulce et decoram est.
