Should someone make this a sticky page?

Also, is St Leo still around? If things progress at the current rate, we will soon need someone with the knowhow to split

Civ2 Scenario Medium into MGE and TOT

Historical Category into Ancient / Medieval / Rennaisance / Modern

I've updated all my scenarios and 5 of my creation tips and was thinking of moving on to split the Civ 2 Categories. I've examined the current structure and I think I should be able to do it.

Obviously this is something which requires consent among the community. Everybody, do you have any strong opinions on the following structure.

        Ancient Ages 3000 BC – 476 AD
includes Mesopotamian Empires, Mediterranean Civilizations, Hellenistic Greece, Roman Empire

        Middle Ages 477 AD - 1499
includes Crusades, Byzantine Empire, Holy Roman Empire, Dynastic China

        Age of Discovery 1500 -1899
Includes the Renaissance, European Colonization, American Independence, Napoleonic Wars

        Industrial Age 1900 - 1950
Includes Age of Imperialism, WWI, Russian Civil War, WWII

        Atomic Age 1951 - Present
Includes the Cold War, Korean and Vietnam, Modern Middle Eastern Conflicts

        Fictional
Includes the near Novels, Future, Science Fiction, Fantasy

        Test Of Time
        Will have its own category

This is a conventional format. The only thing I had reservations about was whether WWII should have its own category - but that would mean pushing the Imperialism period / WWI back into the Age of Discovery.

Test of time scenarios should be also included in these categories, not sidelined into a sub-link.

All we need is a way to indicate that a scenario is for ToT. You'll find that most new scenarios
are made for ToT now. I like the industrial/atomic categories, I reckon it covers both world wars
nicely. I feel that a seperate WW2 category is not needed.

Salute if you decide to go through with the restructuring! Tell me if there's anything I can help with.

            How about this:

            3000 BC-476 AD - Ancient Age
            477-1499 - Middle Age
            1500-1699 - Colonial Era
            1700-1850 - Napoleonic Era
            1850-1918 - WW1-Industrial
            1918-1945 - WW2
            1945-2000 - Cold War-Modern

At least I'm strongly in favour of a seperate ww2 section.

That can be done, we can split 'Civ2 Scenarios' into 'Civ2(MGE)' and 'Civ2(TOT)'
              .

I sort of have it figured out. If i works after some experimentation, I will be sure to ask for your help.

I had a similar scheme earlier (but without the Napoleonic Era )when I was trying to give WWII its own era but then I asked myself, how many scenarios are there in the 1850 to 1918 bracket?

                  Oh, I'd say quite a few: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ2/down...os/industrial/

If not, why not follow the CivFanatics version (with some minor adjustments)?

                  Ancient: up to 470 AD
                  Medieval: 470 - 1492
                  Renaissance: 1492 - 1700
                  Industrial: 1700 - 1918
                  WW2: 1918-1945
                  Modern: 1946-present

                    I am not into segregation...

We could create a simple suffix to denote CIV versions.

                      ?
This method + Science Fiction and Fantasy seems to make most sense to me. A section for graphics sets would be handy too and another for guides etc...

I agree with Curt about not seperating MEG and ToT. By adding a note to the scenario description you will be able to see at a glance which format it is, i.e. WWII Europa (MGE) or Vietnam (ToT). Should be fairly easy to sort out the scenarios that are already loaded, I will do that if you want!

I think you are onto a winner here Kobayashi, you have my full support!

I'm working on some banners for this project - not as easy as I thought, they have to conform to the website's existing look and feel. Took thirty minutes just to find the matching font.

Indeed. the user should be able to determine quickly from the blurb what version of CIV2 is needed.

And in any case, since it is a wiki site, if there is any doubt, we can add in our own suffix.

                          PS
The city/era banner is very nice work.

Got a road marker for each period:

                            Ancient Ages 3000 BC – 476 AD

476 = the Fall of the Western Roman Empire

                            Middle Ages 477 AD - 1491

                            1492 = Columbus First Voyage

                            Age of Discovery 1492 -1768

1769 = Patent for Watt Steam Engine

                            Industrial Age 1769 - 1913

                            1914 = First Global Conflict

                            Age of Militarism 1914 - 1945
(Alternatively, the World Wars Period )

                            see this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Militarism

                            1945 = Hiroshima

                            Atomic Age 1946 - Present

I like it exept the last two ages. Now my Belle Epoque (pre-WW1 era) scenario will be in the "Napoleon" section. Why don't you make the Age of Militarism/Imperialism (or whatever) from 1871-1945? (Meaning the Industrial age spans from 1769-1870). But taking into account the amount of ww2 scenarios out there I still think it's more fair with a separate ww2 section.

I'm not trying to be stubborn, and it doesn't really matter, but to me what I suggested makes more sense.
